2. List down equipment, areas or sections that can be found in the community pharmacy that are commonly found in all
pharmacies. In what activites or function are they being used? How vital are they in the pharmacy operation?
EQUIPMENT FUNCTION/S
1. Air conditioner Used to neutralize the humidity inside the pharmacy to
maintain proper storage condition of the medicines.
2. Bio refrigerator A purpose-built pharmaceutical refrigerator must be used for
the storage of cold chain medicinal products and used and
maintained in accordance with PSI Guidelines on the
Storage of Medicinal Products within a Retail Pharmacy
Business. A domestic fridge is not appropriate for the
storage of medicinal products. Food and drink should never
be stored in this refrigerator.
3. Measuring apparatus Appropriate and accurate measuring apparatus must be
available in a pharmacy and superintendent and supervising
pharmacists must ensure that there are robust written
policies, procedures and training in place for its use and
maintenance. Balances and calibration weights used in
pharmacies must be fit for purpose and verified as such prior
to use
4. Indoor Thermometer Used to measure the temperature of the pharmacy, in order
to know how critical, the temperature inside of it.
5. Personal Protective Equipment Compounding of specific extemporaneous preparations or
the handling of cytotoxic medication.
6. Waste Disposal Facilities Appropriate disposal facilities are required for the various
types of pharmacy waste including waste/expired medicinal
products, sharps, hazardous waste and general waste.
Disposal facilities for confidential information must be in
place and, as appropriate, for additionally proposed services.
An on-site shredder or access to appropriately secure
shredding facilities must be provided.
7. Cleaning equipment Preventative measures to reduce incidence of contamination
must be in place. All equipment used in the dispensing and
