Problems

Q1 : Engine oil at 80°C flows over a 10-m-long flat plate whose temperature is
30°C with a velocity of 2.5 m/s. Determine the rate of heat transfer over the entire
plate per unit width. Take the properties of the oil at film temperature.

Q2 : The top surface of a hot block with L= 8 m is to be cooled by forced air .

The air velocity and air temperature are 6 m/s and 30 oC , respectively , while
the surface temperature is Ts = 120 oC . Determine the average heat transfer
coefficient and the rate of heat transfer . Take the properties of air at film
temperature : k = 0.02917 W/m.oC , υ = 2.486 × 10-5 m2/s and Pr = 0.7166.

Q3 : A circuit board by air with length L=15 cm , if the temperature of the air is
20oC with velocity 5 m/s and the rate of the heat transfer is 15 W . Take the air
properties at film temperature k = 0.0265 W/m.oC , υ = 1.655 × 10-5 m2/s ,
Pr = 0.7268 . Determine the board temperature at the end of the board .

Q4 : Air is flowing over a long flat plat velocity 8 m/s . Determine the distance
from the leading edge of the plate where the flow become turbulente , and the
thickness of the boundary layer at that location . Take the properties for air:

k = 0,02735 W/m.oC , υ = 1.798 × 10-5 m2/s , Pr = 0.7228
