• Sikkim is a state in northeastern india.
• It borders the tibet Autonomous region of china in the north and
northeast,
• Bhutan in the east , Nepal in the west, and West bengal in the
south .
• Sikkim has four districts –East sikkim , North sikkim and west
sikkim .
• The districts capitals are Gantok , Mangan ,namchi and gyalshing .
• These four districts are futher divided into 16 subdivions;
• Pakyong , Rongli ,Rangoo and Gangtok are the subdivision of the
east district
• Soreng ,Yuksom , Gyalshing and Dentam are the subdivision of the
west district
• Chungthang, Dzongu, Kabi and Mangan are the subdivisions of the
NorthDistrict.
• Ravongla, Jorethang, Namchi and Yangyang are the subdivisions of
the SouthDistrict

• Modern Sikkim is multiethnic and multilingual


Indian state.
• The official languages of the stateare English,
Nepali, Sikkimese and Lepcha.
• Additional official language sinclude Gurung,
Limbu, Magar, Mukhia, Newari, Rai, Sherpa and
Tamang for the purpose of preservation of culture
and tradition in the state.

of Nepali Sikkim's residents are of Nepali ethnic origin

• Legend has it that the Buddhist saint Guru Rinpoche visited Sikkim in the 9th century,
introduced Buddhism .
• Indeed, the Namgyal dynasty was established in 1642. Over the next 150 years, the kingdom
witnessed frequent raids and territorial losses to Nepalese invaders.
• It allied itself with the British rulers of India, but was soon annexed by them. Later, Sikkim
became a British protectorate, before merging with India following

• The Sikkimese culture finds expression in it's beautiful art and craft.
• Knotted woollen carpets with the dominating dragon emblem, and eight
auspicious signs; wood carvings, Lepcha handlooms in traditional designs and
richcolours for clothes, bags, linen and accessories; leather jackets and
handbags, articles of homemade paper, Thanka (religious scroll paintings) and
Sikkimese Dragon Jewellery make a fascinating collection of handicrafts, inspired
by an age old culture .
•The Gumpa being performed in Lachung during the Buddhist festival of
Losar.

• According to the Constitution of India, Sikkim has Parliamentary system of representative
democracy for its governance; universal suffrage is granted to state residents. The
government structure is organised into three branches:
• Executive: As with all states of India, a governor stands at the head of the executive power of
state, just as the president is the head of the executive power in the Union, and is appointed
by the President of India. The governor's appointment is largely ceremonial, and his or her
main role is to oversee the swearing-in of the Chief Minister.

• Legislature: Sikkim has a unicameral legislature, the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, like most
other Indian states. Its state assembly has 32 seats, including one reserved for the Sangha.
Sikkim is allocated one seat in each of the two chambers of India's national bicameral
legislature, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha

• Sikkim's climate ranges from sub-tropical in the south to tundra in the northern parts. The
tundra-type region in the north is clad by snow for four months a year though
the temperature drops below 0 °C (32F) almost every night.
• The peaks of north-western Sikkim are perpetually frozen. Most of the inhabited regions of
Sikkim, however, witness a temperate climate, with the temperatures seldom exceeding 28
C (82 F) in summer or dropping below 0 C (32 F) in winter. The mean monthly temperature in
summer is 15 C.
• The state has five seasons: winter, summer, spring, and autumn, and a monsoon season
between June and September.
• The average annual temperature for most of Sikkim is around 18 C.

• Hang gliding and river rafting have also been introduced in order to promote tourism.
