- relatively new in the field of sports and dance
- 1990
- focuses on dance techniques and basic elements of stunts
- consists of cheers and cheerleading routine
- cheers, jumps, dance, gymnastics and stunting

HISTORY OF CHEERDANCE
- great Britain during 1860's and squad to the united states during 1880's

1920's - women involve in cheerleading
1930's - pompoms
1940's - women are mainly leading
1997 - cheerleading was recognized as an independent sport
2004 - USASF (The united states all star) first world
2007 - IASF, 19 nations
2008 to present - IASF/ICU host the world cheering competition

BASIC FORMATION OF CHEERDANCE

Bowling Pin Position


- the formation is arranged to resemble bowling pins in an alley
Staggered line
- a simple line in which the backline is positioned in the windows ( the space between people in
the front line)

Music Section
- mood and tempo, adding sound effects
Cheer Section
- demonstrate support for institution
- demonstrate the ability
DANCESPORT
- Dancesport is a combination of art and sport. It was called competitive ballroom dancing
in the past.
CHARACTERISTICS OF DANCESPORT
Posture - enables a dancer to stand out on the floor, which shows sophistication and confidence.
Timing - Dancing on time with the music.
Line - the stretching of the body
Hold -the correct position of the body with the partner in closed position.
Poise -the stretch of the woman's body upwards and outwards and leftwards into the man's right
arm to achieve balance and connection with his frame, as well as to project outwards to the
audience.
Togetherness - dancing of two people as one on the dance floor.
Musicality and expression -the basic characterization of the dance with the particular
music being played and the choreographic adherence to musical phrasings and accents.
Presentation - how to couple presents their dancing to the audience as well as the proper
costuming and grooming.
Power -the energy that is controlled and not wild.
Foot and leg action -the use of lower extremities that creates balance, beauty and strength.
Shape -the combination of turn and sway to create a look or a position.
Lead and follow -the non-verbal communication of the man and lady through shape,
visual, and body weight.
Floorcraft - the ability to avoid bumping into other couples and continue dancing.

Intangibles - how couple "look" together performing their dances.

Medals
- are usually the starting point to fully grasp the fundamental elements of dancesport.
Bronze - starting level
Silver - intermediate level
Gold - highest level
