LIVING IN THE ERA 2ND SEM MIDTERM REVIEWER

DEFINITION OF ICT
- a technology required for information processing, in particular, the use of electronic computers,
communication devices and application software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve
information from anywhere, anytime.
INFORMATION
- refers to the knowledge obtained from reading, investigation, study or research.
COMMUNICATION
- is an act of transmitting messages.
- process whereby information is exchanged between individuals using symbols, signs or verbal
interactions.
TECHNOLOGY
- of scientific knowledge, experience and resources to create processes and products that fulfill human
needs.
COMPONENTS OF ICT
1. SOFTWARE
- the programs and other operating information used by a computer
2. HARDWARE
- he machines, wiring, and other physical components of a computer or other electronic system.
3. DIGITAL DATA
- information represented as a string of discrete symbols, each of which can take on one of only a finite
number of values from some alphabet, such as letters or digits.
4. INTERNET ACCESS
- the percentage of households who reported that they had access to the Internet.
USED OF ICT IN EVERYDAY LIFE
IN EDUCATION
Teacher - use computers to research for teaching materials, participate in online forum and online
conference.
Students - use computers as reference tools for looking information in the Internet.
Researchers use computers to collect and process data.
School administrators - use computers for administrative purposes to ensure that entire operations run
smoothly.
IN BANKING
Bank administrators - can control the entire banking system and banking activities.
Businessman - can save their time by using online services offered by banks.
IN INDUSTRY
help workers - operate machine.
help researchers - analyze and collect research data for future references.
IN BUSSINESS
help employees - to communicate with their customers for any inquires and to get the latest updates
inventory to be informed to the customers.
DATA PROCESSING CYCLE
- defined as the process of transforming raw data into useful information.
- a process of sequential steps, including input processing, output and interpretation, preparation feedback
and storage often are include step of the cycle.
HOW COMPUTER PROCESS INFORMATION
1. Computers accept inputs ( i.e. data)
2. The input is translated into binary numbers and processed
3. The process produces output (i.e information)
4. This sequence can repeat endlessly: outputs can be inputs
LESSON 2
HOW COMPUTER WORK
The basic parts of a computer are the central processing unit (CPU), memory, a keyboard or other input
device, and a screen or other output device.
INPUT = KEYBOARD
STORAGE = HARDISK
PROCESSING = CPU
OUPUT = MONITOR

COMPUTER NETWORKS SYSTEM

PERSONAL AREA NETWORK ( PAN )
- interconnects technology devices, typically within the range of a single user, which is approximately 10
meters or 33 feet
LOCAL AREA NETWORK ( LAN )
- a computer network that links devices within a building or group of adjacent buildings.
WIDE AREA NETWORK ( WAN )
- large network of information that is not tied to a single location.
- the technology that connects your offices, data centers, cloud applications, and cloud storage together
WIRE COMMUNICATION
1. USB
- Universal Serial Bus is a connection or interface that allows the computer to communicate w/ systems
peripherals
2. FIREWIRE
- it can transmit data to and from devices which have typical high data rates, such as external hd.
3. ETHERNET CABLE
- it can transmit data to and from devices which have typical high data rates, such as external hd.
4. HDMI
- High-definition Multimedia Interface is a connector for transmitting audio/video data which are capable
to computers, projectors, and digital televisions.
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
1. WIFI
- Wireless-Fidelity uses radio waves to wirelessly transmit information across a network. Transmitted
frequency 2.5 & 5 gigahertz (GHz)
2. BLUETOOTH
- Uses radio waves to connect to other devices. The connection via Bluetooth is called pairing.

LESSON 3
THE INTERNET AND WORLD WIDE WEB
The Internet started from the Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Wide Area Network which is called the
ARPANET.

THE INTERNET
- defined as a worldwide network connecting to a million computers via dedicated routers and servers.
WORLD WIDE WEB ( WWW )
- referred to as the collection of public websites that are connected to the internet worldwide, together
with the client computers.
- considered to be one of the applications in the internet and computer networks.
WEB TECHNOLOGIES
Hypertext markup language (HTML)
- standard markup language used for creating web pages.
- Classified as the set of markup symbols or codes appended in a file intended for presentation on a
WWW browser page.
Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)
- classified as the set of standards allowing users of the WWW to interchange information seen on web
pages.
Web servers and web browsers
- a software application for recovering, presenting, and navigating information resources on the WWW.

LESSON 4
MILLENIALS AND THE RISE OF THE INFORMATION SOCIETY
MILLENIALS
- .Most people believe that even if you are born in the latter years of the 90’s (up until year 2000), you are
technically a millennial.
- Millennial are known for being, as the older generations says,
self centered.
THE DIFFERENCE OF MILLENIALS FROM OTHER GENERATION
MILLENIALS ARE MORE EDUCATED
1. The number of the female population who has completed education increased.
2. The number of working women increased.
3. Millennial are three times less likely to get married.
4. Millennial men are less likely to become a veteran.
5. Most of the millennial in today time live in the metropolitan area.
NEW TECHNOLOGY.
.Any set of progress in techniques which offers significant help over the created technology for a given
process is a new technology.
FACTS ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA
1. Web 2.0 and interactive
2. It has features of user-generated profiles.
3. Users can generate the content.
4. The 69 percent users of social media were Americans based on the 2018 survey.
5. Two Asian countries lead in the list of social media; they are India and China.
6. Online time spent of an individual on social media is over one-fifth.

7.803 million users of QQ
8. 531 million users of QZone
9. 500 Million users of Douyin/Tik Tok
10. 446 million users of Sino Weibo

Millennial dependency on the Internet

With the century we are currently living in with technology surrounding us, technology has helped in our
daily lives.
1. Information gathering
- -Millennial rely on the internet, for gathering any information.
2. Navigation and Transportation
3. Communication
4. Education
- -learn and study via computer
- online schools in the Ph. AMA and south ville
OVERVIEW OF NEW TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
1. Technology changed the education system
- Education and learning approaches were changed by the technology the first time IBM was introduced as
the first personal computer back in 1981.
2. Technology changed the methods of communicating
- Technology today has created many various types of applications in terms of doing communications
online.
3. Technology changed people’s health
- There are both positive and negative effects of technology in the health of the people.

What are the new Technological Development?

1. Artificial Intelligence ( ai )
- the replication machine of intellect and a human intelligence. Some part or application of act.
2. 3D Printing
- 3D Printing is correspondingly known as additive manufacturing because Printing in 3D does not let it
eliminate materials,
3. Google Glass
- Augmented reality or also known as AR has made its way to be included in the lives of people in terms of
virtual experience and even education itself.
4. Oculus Rift
- Games nowadays have stepped up with Virtual Reality with the help of the Oculus Rift. The 3D headset
