Q1. Why is it said that the management principles are universal?

There is a claim that management is applicable everywhere. Provide examples to support of

this claim. Although we are aware that every business has employees who are given certain
tasks and given the duty of serving the organisation and its objectives, individuals who carry
out this job and responsibility are known as managers. And we are aware that no company
can function without management, which is overseen by managers. Because management is a
universal application, it may be used in any company, whether it is profitable or not.

Considering the reason management is referred to as a universal application This idea of

universality in management has a number of ramifications.

Management abilities can be transferred from one individual to another. It is possible to

transfer management abilities from one organisation to another. According to the global
context, management talents may be transferred from one nation to another.

Some management gurus endorse the Universality of Management on the group, which states
that regardless of the circumstance or degree of management, the following management
functions would always be present: Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling.

As we have already discussed, FW Taylor developed the general theory of management,

which falls under the umbrella of scientific management. For more information, see this
article on Taylor's contribution to the scientific management era.

The president, college dean, bishops, and heads of government agencies all carry out the
same duties, according to Fayol acting in their managerial capacity. "Management
fundamental have universal applications in every kind of enterprises and at every level of the
enterprises," claim Koontz and 'O' Donnell. Others, however, disagree with the Universality
of Management.

"The skills, the ability, and the experience of management cannot, as such, be translated and
applied to the structure and administration of other institutions," according to Peter Drucker.
An occupation in management does not, by itself, qualify one for significant political office
or for leadership positions in the military, the church, or a university.
Management philosophy is culture-bound and not generally applicable, claim C.Mc Millan
and R.W. Gonzalez. Management philosophies are influenced by outside factors.

Why then is it claimed that the Management has a universal application?

As is well known, management is necessary for all businesses, whether they are profitable or
not. Planning, organising, staffing, leading, and managing are management functions that are
evident in all organisations.

According to Koontz and O'Donell, "each management must occasionally perform all the
responsibilities defining managers. This is the management function's guiding concept of
universality.

Q2. Planning is looking ahead and control is looking back.

Comment?

Planning is looking ahead and controlling is looking back. This statement is partially true.

Planning: Planning psychologically involves making choices based on expectations of "what

is to be done" and "how it is to be done." It is a mental process that involves choosing the
objectives to be met and the strategies to use. Since planning requires making predictions
about the future, it is usually referred to as "seeing ahead."

Controlling: Regulating, on the other hand, entails assessing earlier performance and
contrasting it with predetermined standards. Controlling is seen as a function that looks
behind in this way.

However, just a portion of each of these claims is accurate. Planning, although being a
futuristic idea, is founded on past actions and occurrences. Without looking back, it is
difficult to plan for the future. Comparatively, controlling entails evaluating past performance
while also attempting to enhance future performance by implementing the necessary
corrective measures. Therefore, we could contend that both planning and controlling have
both forward- and backward-looking characteristics.
Q3. Case 1

Q1 - State the principle of management described in the above para.

Ans. Discipline is the managerial principle mentioned in the paragraph above.

Discipline is adhering to the employment contract and other norms that are essential to the
operation of the company.

Q2- Identify any two values that the company wants to communicate to the society

Ans. The company wants to spread these values throughout society:

i. Environmentally conscious.
ii. Development of underdeveloped areas.

Q4. Case 2

Q-1 Discuss who will be promoted to higher position and why? Stating positives and
negatives of both Nikita and Sanjay.

Ans - Despite his tendency of backbiting, Sanjay will be promoted to a higher position since
he is a highly hard-working employee that every employer wants to keep.

Nikita won't be taken into account for a promotion since she is smart but lazy, and a firm that
needs to develop won't take into account such employees.
