CEline Vipiana
is the French creator designer of
Celine who was born in 1915
She got married between 1930 and 1940
to Richard Vipiana with whom she
opened The first Celine Boutique in
1945.
Her career
Even Though women were not
encouraged to be independent, Celine
VIpiana started her career after world
war two opening a shop where she
sold luxurious, high-end children
shoes. She found great success in her
shop thanks to the maintained, high
quality style and meticulous detail of
her product.
Three years later in 1948 she opened
two more boutiques where she
expanded her brand adding fine
leather goods, hands bags and women
shoes.
This expansion caused brought a lot of
elegant clientele,
- In the late 50’s as the business
grew, The Vipiana couple
developed the Barrette Moccasin,
which introduced a new type of
shoe decoration called "horse bit"
- The design team debuted their
first ready-to-wear line and a
brand-new collection of casual
shoes named Inca in the 1960s.
While their "Inca" series of
moccasins received an upgrade
with a heel, their "Ready to Wear"
range merged the elements of
Parisian luxury with ease.
Celine opened boutiques in cities outside of
their native France, including London, the US, and
Japan, as their fame and fortune spread around
the globe. Including new ideas such as
sportswear for ladies in ready-to-wear and
luxurious accessories. Featuring pastel-colored
denim, fitted shirts, leather vests, and wool skirt
suits.
in 1987, the shareholder Bernard Arnault, LVMH
(Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton) acquired Celine.
Until she passed away at the age of 84 in 1997,
Mrs. Vipiana continued to be the head designer of
Celine. With her departure, Michael Kors assumed
leadership of the company's ready-to-wear
branch.
Inspiration and Philosophy
MRS. VIPIANA WANTED TO MAKE USEFUL,
EVERYDAY WOMEN'S ITEMS, NOT FRIVOLOUS,
UNNECESSARY THINGS.
