In 2018 the Faculty of Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry


celebrates 70 years of existence. On this occasion, starting with the
academic year 2018-2019, the traditional Bachelor program
Petroleum Processing and Petrochemistry is launched in English
language.

Discover Romania
Romania is located in the Southeastern Europe and is one of the
biggest states from this area. It borders the Black Sea, Bulgaria,
Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia and Moldova.
On its territory is located almost all the Danube Delta surface
and the southern and central Carpathian Mountains. Romania
has a temperate-continental climate, with four distinct seasons.
From the administrative point of view, Romania is divided into 41
counties and the Municipality of Bucharest, which is the most
populated city (approx. 2 million Population).
Romania has approx. 20 million Population (89,5% Romanian,
6,6% Hungarian, 3,9% others)
The official Language is Romanian.
Since 2007, Romania has been European Union member.
National Currency: Leu/RON (1 EURO=4,7 lei in July 2018).
The National Day is 1st December - The day of The Great Union
from 1918.

THE PRAHOVA County

The Prahova County is located in the historical region called Muntenia, with the capital city at
Ploiesti and it is the third most populated county from the country. Prahova is known also for
the touristic region, the Prahova Valley, located in northwestern region, and also for wine area
Dealul Mare, with Tohani and Valea Calugareasca vineyards.
The most important urban center from this county is Ploiesti city, known for oil processing
industry. Ploiesti is located 60 km of Bucharest and it has a large tradition in oil processing,
being the place in which, in 1857, the first refinery in the world was built by the Mehedinteanu
brothers. The petroleum fraction obtained in this refinery was used for the public lighting of
Bucharest Municipality, which was the first town in the world with street lighting. Due to the oil
industry, Ploiesti city became the regional center of this area. According to the last 2011
census, the city has 209945 population.
Ploiesti city is the place in which in 1967, the transfer of Petroleum-Gas Institute from
Bucharest was decided. Nowadays, there are located three important refineries: OMV PETROL
LUKOIL, Vega-ROMPETROL.
PETROLEUM-GAS UNIVERSITY OF PLOIESTI
• Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti was founded in Bucharest, in 1948, as
Petroleum-Gas Institute. The Institute had, as a main aim, to train the
engineers required by the petroleum and gas industry in Romania. In 1975
was finished the transfer of Petroleum-Gas Institute of Ploiesti. In 1992, the
Petroleum-Gas Institute of Ploiesti became University of Ploiesti, as new
faculties and sections in the fields of economic studies and humanities
were set up. For a better definition of tradition and structure, in 1993 the
University of Ploiesti changed its name into ‘’Petroleum-Gas University of
Ploiești”.
• The present academic structure of the Petroleum-Gas University of
Ploiesti includes five faculties: the Faculty of Petroleum-Gas Engineering,
the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of
Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry, the Faculty of Economic Sciences
and the Faculty of Letters and Sciences.
• Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti is among the most active academic
backgrounds which sustain the collaboration, the exchange of experience
with prestigious higher education from all over the world, both students
and teachers being involved in bilateral programs. Through these
programs, you will have the chance to meet students from universities of
Germany, France, Belgium, England, United States of America, Russia,
Ukraine, Japan, New Mexico, France, Poland, Slovakia, Greece or Taiwan.
The Erasmus Bilateral Agreements offer multiple choices of optimal
solutions in order to develop specific skills for your specializations.

Faculty of Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry trains


specialists who are part of the international elite of the industry.
Around 7000 engineers, researchers, teachers and others from
Romania and also from 68 countries have graduated this faculty.
We are proud to say that in any industrial location from Europe,
Asia, Africa or U.S. there are specialists prepared in our
laboratories. The graduates of this faculty can handle jobs as
engineers in oil processing refinery, also in research institutes
and design installations of chemical and petrochemical
industries or as specialists in test laboratories of various oil
companies and assessment of air quality, water or soil.

How can you become a Student at Petroleum-
Gas University of Ploiesti?

The selection of candidates will be done within the limits of the available places using the criterion of the average mark for the
graduated studies.

The application file shall include:


a) birth certificate – copy and certified translation;
b) copy of the document certifying permanent residence abroad;
c) copy of the passport;

e) copy and certified translation of the high school diploma or its equivalent, certified by the authorities of the issuing country;
f) copy and certified translation of the high school graduation certificate for the graduates of the current year;
g) transcripts for all the study periods – copies and certified translations;
h) graduation certificate for the preparatory year of Romanian language or the linguistic competence certificate;
i) medical certificate (in an international language) to testify to the fact that the candidate does not suffer from contagious
diseases or any other diseases incompatible with the future profession.
