Purpose and Objectives of the Proposed Program
Divine Word College of Calapan – Basic Education seeks to produce a more
enhanced quality education with a more equipped students, which are highly and
internationally competitive in response to the rising demand for the scientific
understanding, theories and abilities on today’s society. To support this noble
objective, the institution would want to implement the Special Science Curriculum, a
DepEd Special Curriculum program devised and arranged expressly to boost the
capacities of advanced and scientifically oriented learners.
The school’s specific objectives include the following:
a. To holistically nurture the students in developing the intelligence and
skills;
b. To cater learners who are interested to enroll in the Special Science
Curriculum, particularly learners residing within the school community;
and,
c. To actively participate in all academic activities especially in Science with
excellent preparation through the Special Science Curriculum.
It has been accentuated that there is a need to administer qualifying
examinations and conduct screening to filter the roster of competent learners who will
be part of the pioneering Special Science class in Divine Word College of Calapan. To
qualify as examined, students must achieve be a Kindergarten completer and must be
6 years old. For ease in computation of the average, the students must reach the
following numerical value for Quarter 4 of the descriptive ratings must be used: B-

80%, D-90%, and C-95%. Finally, the applicants must know how to read. Once eligible
to participate in Special Science Class, the learner must maintain the qualifying
grades.
The Special Science Classes are held to scientific, mathematical, and research-
based curricular requirements. SSES is a research and development project designed
to develop students with higher aptitude for science and mathematics through the
implementation of an enhanced science and mathematics curriculum at the
elementary level. These are designed to introduce students to advanced science
education. In addition to regular K to 12 BEP Curriculum offerings, electives for
elementary students such as Enhanced Science and Enhanced Mathematics will be
included in the class program. Students will be rigorously and extensively taught and
sharpened by this proposed Special Science Curriculum. The learners’ limitless
exposure to Science-related instructional activities, the use of advanced, enriched, and
intensive audio-visual tools, technologies, and gadgets, and the maximum use of
laboratory equipment for scientific learning goals are the best qualities or components
of Science lessons.

The table above indicates the list of elementary schools under the Schools
Division of Calapan City that are implementing Special Science Classes for Elementary
schools, their respective location, and distance from the Divine Word College of
Calapan Basic Education Department. The only public school with SSC program for
elementary within the Schools Division of Calapan City is Adriatico Memorial School
while the only private school in the division is the Holy Infant Academy.

Demand for Establishment of Special Science Classes for Elementary Schools
Every child is endowed with distinct abilities and is exceptional in his or her
own way (Ursula, 2017). Nevertheless, as shown to the Article XIV of the 1987
Philippine Constitution, each student has a right to an education, regardless of their
talent, peculiarity, or requirements. This article is engaged with the total
responsiveness of educational progress that Divine Word College of Calapan aims to
cater.
More so, DWCC employs the implementation of Special Science Classes for
Elementary Schools within the Schools Division of Calapan City in response to the
progressing relevance of raising an enhanced social awareness of learners, and a
reasonable number of enrollees from the various feeder schools namely Divine Word
College of Calapan Pre-school Department and Little Angels of Mary Immaculate
Children’s House with an approximate number of 5 male and 10 female learners.
On the other hand, it also aims to have adequate facilities, follow a standard-
level of performance, and achieve supportive provisions for effective instruction and
quality education. In the recovery from the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic,
there is a pressing need to provide excellent education to the students. Aside from the
expansion of knowledge in the field, DWCC has a high hope that learners would be
inspired to take up Science-related courses in the future.
Facilities
The DWCC Elementary department provides air-conditioned classrooms, library
and learning materials applicable for the SSC students and other support materials. It

contains computer rooms with internet connection and science laboratories that fit to
the needs of elementary pupils. The size must be suited on the requirements of the
competencies. The class size depending on the number of enrollees is reserved for the
lecture room and the practical demonstration area for carrying out special sciences.
Most of the learning activities such as on-vehicle servicing are performed in the
workshop.
Financial Capacity to Sustain and Maintain School
Divine Word College of Calapan provides the capacity to sustain and maintain
its needs since the institution has its monthly subsidy to the school. The
establishment is ready to support as the needs if the school continue to arise.
More so, the school canteen is another source of income of the school. It has a
bookstore with school supplies within the campus. Tuition fees are also necessary to
reach the standards of the institution’s quality education. Also, miscellaneous fees
include internet and dental fees, laboratory fee, electricity fee, security, and utility fee.
