Grade 10 Second Quarter 10- Lily 11:00-12:00 Wednesday-Thursday

10 Dahlia- 3:00-4:00
10 Dama De Noche-4:00-5:00

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards Demonstrate understanding of the different regions

of electromagnetic spectrum.

B. Performance Standard

C. Learning Competencies The learners should be able to

 Compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of electromagnetic
(Write the LC code) waves. (S10FE-IIa-b-47).
 Identify materials that can block or allow radio waves to pass through.
 Explain how these materials allow or block radio waves to pass
through.
II. CONTENT ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM- Characteristics of EM Waves

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson

or presenting the new lesson The teacher will start the lesson by asking learners “Who among you here
(Elicit)(5mins) have played a remote-controlled car? Describe a remote-controlled car”

The teacher will let one student operate the remote-controlled (RC) car.
(The teacher will provide the remote-controlled car) Then Ask: How does it
B. Establishing a purpose for work?
the lesson (Engage) Possible Answer: RC Car works through the transmission of signal from the
antenna of the remote to the car, which causes it to move.
What do you think will happen if its antenna is covered with dust?
Possible answer: The car will not function properly. (Answers may vary)
C. Presenting Divide the class into five (5) groups and let them do the Activity 2: “Now you
examples/instances of the
go! Now you won’t!” in LM, page 149.
Guide Questions:
1. Compare the time taken by the RC car to cover the same distance.
Possible answer: The time for the different set-ups were different from
new lesson. (Explore)
each other. Some were faster than the other.
(10mins)
2. Which material/s made RC car moved faster? slower?
Possible answer: The cotton, plastic wrapper and paper made the RC
car move faster while gloves allowed the RC car to move slower. The aluminum
foil did not allow the RC car to move.

D. Discussing the new Presentation of the group outputs.

concepts and practicing new
skills #1 (Explain)

E. Discussing the new

concepts and practicing new
skills #2 (Explain) (5mins)

The teacher will discuss the following concepts:

 Remote controlled cars have four main parts: transmitter, receiver,

motor and power source.
 Power source refers to batteries.
 Motor is the one that turns the wheel. Transmitter is a set of equipment
used to generate and transmit EM waves carrying messages or signals
F. Developing mastery (radio wave) to control a toy.
(Leads to formative  Receiver is an antenna and circuit board inside the toy. It receives
assessment 3) (Elaborate) signal from the transmitter and activates motors inside the toy as
commanded by the transmitter.
 Thin plastic wrap, wax paper, cotton and rubber are not likely to
interfere with radio waves.
 Aluminum foil and other electrically conductive materials such as
copper can reflect, absorb the radio waves and consequently interferes
with their transmission.

G. Finding practical The teacher will ask learners “Based from the activity a while ago, what does it
application of concepts and tell us about the transmission of the signal?
skills in daily living
Possible answer: It tells us that the signal can be interrupted/blocked.
(Elaborate)

H. Making generalization and The teacher will elaborate that Aluminum foil and other electrically conductive
abstraction about the lesson materials such as copper can reflect, absorb the radio waves and consequently
(Elaborate) interferes with their transmission.

Quiz- Enumeration:

I. Evaluating learning 1-2. Give the characteristics of EM waves.

(Evaluate) 3-6. Give examples of materials that deflect/block EM waves.
7-10. Give materials that allow the passage of EM waves.

J. Additional activities for

Performance Task: The teacher will ask learners to make a reaction paper
application or remediation
about: Why does a cellphone loss signal when inside a tunnel or garage?
(Extend)
