INTRODUCTION

I propose to create a network in the New girls hostel and computer science faculty, and a
network connecting the two buildings as well as provide a connection to the internet for both
buildings. This network will allow for efficient communication and information sharing among
students in the hostel and the faculty, and will provide access to a wide range of online
resources and tools that will enhance the overall learning experience.

The network will be designed to meet the specific needs and preferences of students in the
hostel, and faculty. This will include determining the number and placement of network access
points, selecting appropriate hardware and software, and determining the capacity and
bandwidth required to support the expected usage of the network.

SCOPE OF THE NETWORK

1. The network will cover the girls hostel and computer science faculty, and will include
network access points in each building.

2. The network will provide internet access to all users in both buildings.

3. The network will support a maximum of 600 users in the girls hostel.

4. The network will include three classes in the computer science faculty: CMPLH,
SWLAB, and HWLAB. Each class will have a maximum of 100 users, bringing it to a
total of 300 users in the computer science faculty. Each class with its own network
access point to support the specific needs of the students in the faculty.

5. The network will include a connection between the girls hostel and computer science
faculty, with a maximum distance of 400 metres between the two buildings.

6. The network will be designed to support the expected usage of students in the hostel
and faculty, including internet browsing, file sharing, video streaming, online
collaboration, and High graphic usage, like Gaming

7. The network will be secured with appropriate measures to protect against

unauthorised access and cyber threats.

8. The network will be regularly maintained and supported to ensure that it is

functioning properly and meeting the needs of students and faculty.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

Aim:

To create a network that connects the girls hostel and computer science faculty, as well as
provides a connection to the internet for all users.

Objectives:

1. To design a network that meets the specific needs and preferences of students in
New girls hostel and faculty

2. To support the expected usage of students and faculty, including internet browsing,
:
2. To support the expected usage of students and faculty, including internet browsing,
file sharing, video streaming, and online collaboration, and secure the network with
appropriate measures

3. To enhance the overall learning experience of students and faculty by providing

access to a wide range of online resources and tools.

4. To improve communication and information sharing among students in New girls

hostel and the faculty

HARDWARE AND NETWORK REQUIREMENT

1. Routers: Routers will be used to provide internet connectivity for the network. The
number of routers needed will depend on the size and layout of the buildings, as well as
the expected usage of the network. I’ll use ASUS RT-AX88U, because this router has 8
Gigabit Ethernet ports, and it is designed for high-performance gaming and streaming.
It is also equipped with WiFi 6 technology

2. Load Balancer: A load balancer will be used to distribute incoming traffic across
multiple routers in order to improve performance and ensure that the network is not
overwhelmed. I’ll use Radware Alteon 10000, because It is a multi-cloud load balancer
that can be used to distribute traffic across multiple routers in a network, it offers
advanced features such as SSL offloading, DDoS protection, and application-layer
firewall.

3. Switches: You will need switches to create a network within the computer science
faculty, as well as the girls hostel. I’ll use Catalyst 9300X, because this series of
switches is designed for enterprise networks and provides a variety of port options,
including 48 or 64 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports.

4. Access points: You will need access points to provide wireless connectivity for
devices in the computer science faculty, as well as in the girls hostel. The number of
access points needed will depend on the size and layout of the buildings, as well as the
expected usage of the network. I’ll use Cisco Aironet 2800, because This access point
can support up to 256 simultaneous users and offers both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless
networks.

5. Cables: You will need cables to connect the routers, switches, and access points, as
well as to provide connectivity for wired devices such as desktop computers. The type
and length of cables needed will depend on the layout of the buildings and the distance
between network components.

6. Repeater: A repeater is a device that receives a signal, amplifies it, and retransmits
it. In the context of communication networks, repeaters are used to extend the distance
over which a signal can travel by regenerating the signal and re-amplifying it as it
propagates through the network. I’ll use an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA),
because EDFA's are widely used in long-haul communication systems, and they can
effectively increase the signal strength and extend the distance the signal can travel
without introducing significant distortion to the signal.
