CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION

2022
First of all, let's talk about globalization, which is a progressive social, economic, political,
technological, and cultural process worldwide, which consists of the growing relationship
between different countries of the world; that is, it’s a process of interdependence, in which
we give and receive from everyone.

Our country "Colombia" entered this stage of globalization, importing cars, technology, and
clothes, among many other things; and exportating oil, coal, emeralds, flowers, and women's
underwear that are recognized worldwide.

Advantages:

❖ With respect to globalization and local values there are Asians who love Panela, and
in Eastern Europe who love "Uchuvas". Laura Araujo
❖ Another aspect to mention is the negotiation that Colombia made with the FTA (Free
Trade Agreement) and the United States, which allowed investment, import, and
export of products, with low taxes. Likewise, products such as rice, dairy products,
chicken, meats, coffee, and flowers have acquired exchange relevance.
❖ This has also benefited many traditional farmers in the Caribbean region that are part
of the Bolívar, Cordoba, Sucre, Cesar and La Guajira departments, because thanks to
the export of products such as corn, cassava and yam still subsist and generate jobs .
❖ The export of palm oil to other countries has generated great income to the country,
Colombia is the fourth world producer of palm oil and the first in America according
to the Oil World of 2017. In the department of Cesar, there are several agribusiness
companies that produce it. From this product are derived: soaps, edible oils, candles,
cosmetics,and many others. Diana Castellar

Disadvantages:

❖ Minority languages are lost. In Colombia we have a clear example of this, the
indigenous communities of the Caribbean region that are found in the Sierra Nevada
de Santa Marta and in the department of Cesar have gradually been losing their
cultures (The Wayuu and Arhuacas Mochilas.) because today they already the
Colombian people don't buy their handicrafts but buy the latest fashion bags brought
from Europe.
❖ Many autochthonous traditions have been modified to incorporate new customs from
other western countries since we have chosen to imitate and adopt those lifestyles, for
example, the way of dressing, their ideals, etc.
❖ Another effect it has had on our Caribbean region has been the loss of cultural
identity, for example, our young people have more interest in pop, rock, and
reggaeton, instead of identifying themselves by their traditional music such as
cumbia, vallenato, Porro, champeta, mapalé, many others. Andrés Barrios
