-fewer conjunctions(and,but), more
subordinators(because,whereas) and sentence linkers
-Avoid contracted forms

-to express beliefs=believe,think,maintain,suspect
-in discussion=argue,assert,claim,insist,say
-to show agreement=agree,advocate,admit,accept,acknowledge,
Concede,support
-to show disagreement=challenge,deny,disagree,doubt,
dismiss,question,object,refute
-to give suggestions=imply,suggest,urge
