Angelly: Good morning, everybody.

Our group is made up by _Breynner Barrios, Angelly Rojas__and _Cecia

Santana_______________.

We´re going to talk about our green invention. Our green invention is Eco-Bag_Avani_. It is
biodegradable bags of cassava, a starchy tropical root grown as an agricultural crop in many
countries.

This is an excellent green invention because it will / is going to it will help to improve the
environmental damage caused by plastic bags_.

SUBJECT + VERB + COMPLEMENT

Brey: ü The first reason is that it will / is going to__It will help the great plastic pollution___.

Explanation: _Plastic is a material that does not usually decompose easily, much less naturally,
so it is very resistant. When it is not disposed of correctly, it causes great damage to the
ecosystem. This is a problem that eco-bags will solve since they are biodegradable__.

Cecia: Example: Natpacking® is a proudly Colombian product. It is the business unit of the
company Acelflex sas, dedicated to the manufacture and marketing of flexible packaging. Its
founders found in cassava starch an excellent opportunity to produce a 100% biodegradable,
compostable and organic bag as an alternative going to replace single-use plastics. It is located
in the Free Trade Zone of Palmaseca (Valle del Cauca)_.

Anecdote: we can use them in supermarkets. When making our purchases, we use these types of
sustainable bags._________________________________________.

Angelly: ü The second reason is that it will / is going to prevents fish, birds or other animals
from dying_.

Explanation: _Every year, one hundred thousand marine mammals and one million seabirds die
from ingesting plastic; others die from entanglement, suffocation, strangulation, or malnutrition
from this debris_.

Brey: Example: Turtles' favorite food is jellyfish. Plastic bags look like jellyfish when they float in
the oceans. If a turtle ingests one of these bags it can suffer a blockage in its intestine that will
result in malnutrition, reduced growth rates or death .

Anecdote: biodegradable bags made with cassava dissolve in water, which will help preserve
wildlife, such as sea turtles_.

Cecia: ü The third reason is that it will / is going to _reduce damage to the atmosphere__.
Explanation: The materials that compose it are derived from petroleum, a non-renewable,
expensive and scarce resource; which is also responsible for large emissions of gases that cause
the greenhouse effect_.

Angelly: Example: The manufacture of these bags, unlike plastic ones, will not cause damage to
the atmosphere as they are made of cassava and not petroleum, which turns out to be toxic .

Anecdote: _Companies manufacture plastic with petroleum, The “Universidad de los Andes” Will
begin to work on the creation of biodegradable cassava
bags.________________________________________.

ü In conclusion,

Brey: If we use these new cassava bags, they will compost in less than 100 days and dissolve in
minutes in hot water. In addition, they will pass the oral toxicity test so they are harmless when
consumed by animals and, also, if they fall into bodies of salt water; they will dissolve in 60
days.

Angelly: Another benefit is that they won't burn like plastic, which melts and can cause burns on
contact with the skin.

Cecia: These bags will burn like a cassava, that is, they will only turn black. In general, it will
help reduce plastic pollution, damage to the atmosphere and the preservation of ecosystems._
