Experiment -1 DESIGN OF CMOS INVERTER

Objective
Calculate W/L value of transistors to get threshold value same as Vi.

Theory
CMOS inverters work like most other types of field-effect transistors, butdepend on a layer of
oxygen to separate electrons in the gate and semiconductor. They are made up of a power
supply, voltage input terminal, gate, drain, voltage output, and PMOS and NMOS that are
connected to both the gate and the drain. As low voltage is applied to the voltage input, the
PMOS is turned on while the NMOS remains off, allowing electrons to flow through the gate
and causing the voltage output to produce a high logic. Conversely, as high voltage is
applied tothe voltage input, both the PMOS and NMOS are turned on, preventing as many
electrons from reaching the voltage output and causing the voltage output to produce a low
logic.

Result and Observations
DC analysis of output vs input voltage where Vi equal toVth
By keeping, W value of NMOS=0.4uW and value ofPMOS=2u

Conclusion

The input voltage and output voltage current at (900 mV,900 mV) for w=0.4u for the NMOS
and w = 2u for the PMOS.
The value of tau phl depends upon the W/L value of nmos and tau plhvalue depends upon
the W/L value of pmos.

Finally we studied the inverter characteristics of cmos.
