THE ROLE OF THE REGENCY OF EAST LOMBOK GOVERNMENT IN

IMPROVING THE WELFARE OF THE FISHERMAN COMMUNITY

IN LABUHAN HAJI VILLAGE

This research was carried out from July to October 2020 with the role of the East Lombok district
government in improving the welfare of the fishing community in the village of Labuhan Haji. This
research is because the dilators are motivated by the lack of welfare of the fishing community, the delay
in the fulfillment of fishing gear, and the lack of government attention to fishermen, especially for
personal fishermen (individuals). The government should not only provide assistance to group fishermen
but also to individual fishermen.

The type of research used is qualitative research. The object of the research is the role of the East
Lombok district government in improving the welfare of fishermen in the village of Labuhan Haji. While
the research subjects were fishing communities, either group fishermen or individual fishermen, the
village head of the Labuhan Haji village, and the East Lombok fisheries and marine service. Data
collection techniques in this study using interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity check
technique used triangulation, namely by comparing data sources between non-participant observations
and interviews. While the technical analysis of the data used is data reduction, data presentation, and
conclusion drawing.

The results showed that the condition of the lack of human resources (Human Resources) and the
lack of welfare of the fishing community in the village of Labuhan Haji. This is caused by several factors,
namely the lack of facilities and infrastructure for catching fish, uncertain catches, and insufficient
income to meet the needs of life. The function of the government in improving the welfare of the fishing
community in the village of Labuhan Haji has not been maximized in providing assistance. The erratic
fishing season makes fishermen in the village of Labuhan Haji unable to improve social welfare. The
strategy to increase the income of fishermen in the village of Labuhan Haji has a solution by looking for
other jobs, such as farmers, motorcycle taxi drivers, traders in the market, and others.
