1. What does Genspace do?

 What is a biohacker?

They are laboratories and also community hubs that are based on biotechnology learning,
these practices are given to people of different ages and origins that work as a team and share
knowledge.

2. What are some of the potential applications of biotechnology?

Biotechnology serves to use biological machinery of other living beings to benefit man. With
biotechnology, improved medicines, healthy foods, more productive crops, more resistant
materials and energy sources are achieved.

3. What are the risks of biohacking? Do you think the risks of biohacking outweigh
the advantages? Why or why not?

Biohacking includes interventions with little safety or efficacy that are not tested in commerce.
I believe that they do not outweigh the advantages because there are many risks that are
dangerous.

4. What some of the things members have used biohacking for?

Make some sort of a biofuel cell, be analyzing genomes for mutations or make a biosensor to
detect pollution in water…

1. Explain the surprising realization scientists are making about bacteria and what
Danino hopes to eventually be able to do using bacteria.

Danilo wants to find how to combat a cancer with a bacteria because he says that the bacteria
is like a computer, because you can configurate it.

2. Discuss where Danino says bacteria grow can grow in your body. Why is it more
easily able to live there, as opposed to other areas of the body?

What Danino says is that bacteria grow in tumors of your body because there they are secure,
and they think are save and the bacteria will get filtered out.

3. What are probiotic bacteria and how did Danino and his team use this type of
bacteria to detect liver cancer?

They configurate de bacteria to detect the cancer and they know it with the urine. They are
good bacteria.
4. Explain why, for Danino, science and art are closely related.

Because he says that both are based in making new and different things.

5. Based on Danino’s research, how could such discoveries change the future of
medicine?

With Danino’s investigation the medicine could improve because they could use bacteria to
fight with cancer.
