Chakras are energy centers throughout the body that animals use to assimilate and
exchange life force energy, or ki in Japanese. The word chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit,
and these spinning wheels of energy regulate the flow of ki throughout the body. They also
send and receive ki from other chakras, animals and people as well as the outside world.
Each chakra processes particular energies that have certain qualities and characteristics.
On a medium-sized dog, his chakras extend out about three to five inches in every
direction. Each chakra blends into the surrounding ones, and there aren’t hard and fast
separations between them.
Animals’ chakras are much more developed than ours because they rely on their ability to
exchange energy with the world for survival. They have to keep tabs on energetic patterns
and shifts, both inside and outside themselves. Animals who are preyed upon keep an eye
on surrounding energies for safety. Birds sense changes in energy so they know when to fly
south in the winter, deer tap into the earth’s electromagnetic field to remember where the
“good” berries are, and so on. We, on the other hand, can afford to disconnect from our
bodies and surroundings, and sometimes ignore imbalances or don’t even notice them.
While both animals and humans have smaller chakras throughout our entire bodies, the
energy in our main chakras is especially concentrated and dense. Both species have an
eighth chakra, our aura, which is the electromagnetic field that surrounds our body and
contains elements of all the chakras.
Animals have an additional chakra that we don’t have, however, known as the Brachial
Chakra. The Brachial Chakra is located between the shoulder blades and focuses on the
human/animal bond and connection. The Brachial Chakra also directly links to the other
chakras and is a great place to begin a Reiki session on an animal.
Animals also have smaller chakras, known as Bud Chakras, on each foot as well as at the
opening of each ear, on their tail, and at the bridge of their nose. The Bud Chakras keep
animals connected and in tune with the Earth and the subtle vibrations around them.
When animals know about an impending hurricane or other natural disaster before the
people in that area, the animals are likely sensing the changes in the energy from
information they picked up in their Bud Chakras.
POSSIBLE IMBALANCES
In their optimal state, the chakras spin freely and circulate light energy throughout the
body as well as the outside world. Animals’ chakras can become blocked or closed for any
number of reasons, however – trauma, syncing up with their people’s energy, not having
their needs met, etc. Their chakras may be forced open or shut, be overactive and have too
much energy circulating in them, or be deficient in ki and not have enough energy.
When one chakra is out of balance, it affects their entire system, including all their other
chakras. The chakra system is essentially like a water hose. If there’s a kink anywhere in the
hose, it will act like a dam and the water won’t be able to get through. Reiki untangles any
energetic “kinks” so the life force energy can flow freely throughout the body.
When we balance an animal’s chakras, we also help harmonize and heal any nearby
organs. If we know an animal has a particular issue, like a thyroid condition for example,
we can focus on his throat chakra and know his thyroid will reap the benefits as well.
Working with these spinning vortices of energy can restore animals’ entire beings and
bring them back into balance. With chakras that are healthy and aligned, animals can
express themselves fully and live the lives they deserve – happy, fulfilled, and free.

USE INTENTION
We know how important intention is our Reiki practice, so set the intention that the
animal’s chakras will be even and healthy by the end of the Reiki session. Then, (the
hardest part!) let go of the outcome as best you can that their chakras actually will balance
out.
VISUALIZE
See the animal’s chakra system as healthy, spinning vortices of energy, emanating and
radiating their corresponding colors in every direction.
SAY AFFIRMATIONS
Since our Reiki practice is really about healing ourselves so others can benefit from simply
being in our presence, I usually say affirmations in the first person as I move through the
animal’s chakras.
AURA - AHH
CROWN – AUM
THIRD EYE - ONG
THROAT - HAM
HEART – YAM
SOLAR PLEXUS – RAM
SACRAL – VAM
ROOT – LAM
CONNECT THE ROOT + CROWN
Either mentally or physically, put one hand on their root and the other on their crown. See
the energy flowing between your hands and all the chakras with ease.
CROWN – Eagle
THIRD EYE - Buffalo
THROAT – Horse
HEART – None given (He uses the Earth energy to help heal the heart.)
SOLAR PLEXUS – Hummingbird
SACRAL – Coyote
ROOT – Bear
OFFER MASSAGE
Massage stimulates their circulation and the energetic flow between the chakras. Many
animals roll on the ground or rub themselves against other animals or people for this very
reason – to stimulate their chakras!
---
Luckily, Reiki naturally heals the chakras, so just by virtue of sending an animal Reiki, you
also help to balance their chakras. So, if you plan to have an Animal Reiki practice, you can
also offer Chakra Balancing as an additional service!
