Scenario:

Before the school year starts, Mrs. Cruz, the principal called the teachers to a meeting
and discussed the plans for the coming school year. One of the agenda of the meeting
is the improvement of the tools and methods that the teachers utilized to assess
students’ learning. As per record, the school utilizes traditional assessment practices.
He challenged the teachers to present an updated assessment instrument/tool that is
aligned with the required skills of the 21st century.

Note: For Step 1, you may use the assessment tools and instruments based on your
observation/field study. For Step 2, you need to do extra work or research about 21 st
century assessment.

E-portfolio E- portfolio is a digital or online resource
that acts to record and store learner’s
works, goals, achievements, and
reflections. In other words, e-portfolio
documents and makes visible student
learning. This collection of students’
works will provide opportunity for them
to assess their academic performance
and reflect on what they learned and how
they learned it. E-portfolio is also a
useful tool for teachers to monitor and
evaluate their teaching performance and
the effectiveness of the program. It
enables teachers to not only observe
students, but also learn to assess and
enhance themselves as well as the
teaching and learning process.
E-portfolio is a vehicle for
students to monitor and
articulate their educational
experience, thus it is often
used at the end of grading
period. However, researchers
have said that portfolios be
use as both formative and
summative assessment so
that students and teachers
can effectively monitor their
performance and program
from time to time.
