ASSIGNMENT - 2022

EXPLANATORY NOTES

1. B H2 + O2 → H2O + energy ( water is the only product and it is not a pollutant)

2. C Increasing the particle size, reduces the rate of reaction.

3. B Heat is absorbed in the forward reaction, endothermic.

4. C NO → NO2 (oxygen was added)

5. C Fact

6. C Oxides of non-metal (acidic), oxides of metals (basic)

7. C Filter off insoluble salts, rinse it and dry.

8. A CaCO3 and CO2 produced, Ca2+ gives brick - red colour

9. B All metals have free electrons.

10. C Carbon is only more reactive than Lead.

11. D Fact

12. B Copper does not easily react, it is low in the reactivity series.

13. C Fact

14. A Both structure 1 and 2 are alcohols.

15. C Fact

16. A The structure is that of a protein polymer, therefore amino acids are the Monomers.

17. C N - Nitrogen, P - Phosphorous, K - Potassium

18. B Only 1 and 4 give carbon dioxide.

19. D Fact

20. D Temperature of 450oC.

5 Method and apparatus
• M1 - Place the HCI and magnesium carbonate into a container. P
• M2 - Place cotton wool in the neck of the flask.P
• M3 - (the idea that cotton wool) avoids the splashing of the reactants / allows the gas
to escape.P
• M4 - Place the mixture or content(s) (of HCl and magnesium carbonate) on the
electronic balance. P
• M5 - Start a stop-watch and measure initial mass of mixture. P

Measurements
• M6 - Measure the time and mass of container or mixture.P

Presenting results
• M7 - Record the results or data or readings (time and mass) in a table.P

Processing results
• M8 - Draw a graph of either time against mass or time against decrease in mass. P

How you will use your results to reach a conclusion

• M9 - The steeper the curve, the faster the reaction / the less steep the curve, the
slower the reaction. P
