Critical Reflection 1

The learning contract smart goal which was the focus of this reflection was my goal of

familiarizing myself with the Community Wellness Bus and the Preventative Screening Clinics

which the Algoma Ontario Health Team is working. This was my agency related goal.

What did I learn this week in relation to course and personal goals?

I learned a lot about the Community Wellness Bus and focused many hours on reading up

on the bus through documents, plans and meetings notes which were shared with me on google

drive this Tuesday. I now have a much deeper understanding of how the bus operates and the

planning that went behind getting it into place. I also read a lot about the gaps in the community

which it was designed to fill.

What concepts, theory, or content from current and previous courses in the BSCN

program can I apply to my practice?

The concept of interprofessional health. The Algoma Ontario Health Team is all about

bringing together people and groups from many different disciplines and agencies all for the

improvement of our communities overall health. I really get to see how many people need to

cooperate in order to bring about positive change and how different professions can bring

different perspectives. Often healthcare professional will work alongside nurses in order to

overcome diverse challenges and form grassroot initiatives (Schot et al., 2020).

What learning questions were raised by this week’s experience; where will I get the

information to answer the learning questions?

I actually had a lot of questions about the daily reality of running the Community

Wellness Bus from the viewpoint of those on the ground. It is one thing to read about and

another to actually be out there working in the community. I asked if I could shadow one of the

AOHT members when they visit the bus next week, so hopefully I will gain a fuller

understanding after spending some time with the bus.

What thoughts and feelings do I have about this week’s experiences?

I enjoyed getting to see small projects that I worked on such as a scheduling calendar for

the bus and a form about data tracking, being used by the staff immediately. It felt like I was

helping the AOHT. One negative is that I would like to be more involved with some hands on

work since I do prefer that to doing independent/remote work.
