Quadrilaterals that are

1 parallelograms
In this module you may demonstrates understanding of key concepts of identifying
quadrilaterals that are parallelograms. As you go through this lesson, you will be able to
investigate, analyze and solve problems involving parallelograms. Seek the assistance of
your teacher if you encounter any difficulty.

Activity 1
Direction: Plot the following sets of points in the Cartesian plane. Connect each given
set of points consecutively to form a quadrilateral. Identify whether the figure is a
parallelogram or not.
1. (4,6); (6,5); (5,3); (3,4)
2. (2,0); (4,0); (1, −2); (1, −4)
3. (6, −1); (10,2); (6,5); (2,2)
4. (−3,4); (−5,2); (−1,2); (2,4)
5. (8,8); (6,9); (4,5); (6,4)
6. (−3,1); (−4,0); (−2,0); (−3, −2)

Lesson
A Quadrilateral is a four sided polygon with four angles. They
are classified according to the number of parallel sides they have.
Parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite side
that are parallel.
A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if it has the following properties:
1. Any two opposite sides are parallel.
2. Any two opposite sides are congruent.
3. Any two opposite angles are congruent.
4. Diagonals bisect each other.
5. One pair of sides is parallel and congruent.
Activity 2.A
Direction: Using the figure at the right

1. Name 2 squares
2. Name a rectangle
3. Name a rhombus
4. In parallelogram QATY, name the congruent sides.

Activity 2.B
Direction: Classify each statement as True or False.

1. A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides.

2. A rectangle has four equal sides.
3. A rhombus has four equal angles
4. A parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides
5. A square has four right angles and four congruent sides.
