WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT
Max. Word Count - 2000 words

 Report writing guidelines must be followed strictly.

 Assignment will be done individually or in groups as decided by the respective tutors depending
on the strength of the class.

Part A:
As a requisite to develop an effective and meaningful entry strategy into India by a foreign
company, the foreign company needs to do an environment analysis of the industry to identify
opportunities and threats. This assignment tests the ability of the students to conduct an Industry
study on a chosen Industry by applying the concepts learnt in the class, readings from text books
and articles related to the Industry.

Carry out an environmental analysis of an Industry of your choice and the analysis shall be with
reference to India. Identify the recent economic, social, technological and political/government
trends that significantly affect the industry as a whole.

Measure the current status of the Industry and attractiveness of the industry by applying the “five
forces” framework proposed by Michael Porter.

Begin the report with a status of the industry which shall include:
 Competitors, their market shares and the product/market segments they focus.
 Growth rates, profitability, recent takeovers and M & A in the industry.
Except for data, any cut & paste of published/printed matter will entail negative marks.
The student shall register his choice of Indian industry by week 4 of the semester.

 Brief about the chosen industry: (20 Marks)
 Environmental analysis: (20 Marks)
 Industry Attractiveness study: (20 Marks)
 Bibliography and overall report presentation. (20 Marks)

Part B: Presentation (20 Marks)

The individual/ team will make a presentation of their assignment to the class and clarify
questions raised after the presentation. The presentation shall be after the assignment submission.
