#chapter 06
Do we need a leader in the group?
I think that leaders are needed in all groups as a person who has the role of collecting the opinions of
the members, working for their convenience, and judging when there are problems. In chapter 6,
Napoleon plays a role as a leader of the animals. When they faced with the problem that various
materials which need for making a windmill could not be produced on the farm, Napoleon decided to
engage in trade with the neighboring farms. Of course, his way that does not listen to opinions of
other animals is clearly undesirable. However, if there were no animals to make such decisions, other
animals could not solve the problems and would have suffered a greater confusion. In short, the need
for a leader is obvious in any group including animal farm. In animal farm, there was a just a problem
with the leader’s leadership style.

#chapter 07
Dogmatic decision is reasonable when the group face with the urgent problem.
I think that dogmatic decision is not reasonable in any situation and any reason. In chapter 7, the
animals of animal farm faced with the food shortage and they suffered from starvation. And Napoleon
compelled the hens to surrender their eggs to procure grain. This was Napoleon’s dogmatic decision
and led the bad result that some hens died. If Napoleon made the decision with other animals’ various
opinions, they could come up with a reasonable solution that makes everybody happier. Like this,
rather in urgent situation, it is reasonable to come up with a solution through a number of opinions.

#chapter 08
The skeptical attitude of intellectuals is no problem.
In chapter 8, Benjamin acted in skeptical attitude. When Frederick and the men attacked animal farm,
he was just watching and nodded his muzzle with saying “I thought so.” Also, when Squealer stunned,
only Benjamin knew what this meant. But, he did nothing and said nothing. I think if Benjamin let the
animals to know their injustice situation and Napoleon’s problem, they could have claimed their rights
and resisted with Napoleon. Like this, it does not mean anything if the intellectuals do nothing.
Rather, it is a big problem. So, intellectuals have a duty to quickly understand the wrong situation and
let others participate to change it.

#chapter 09
Privileges for some people can be accepted.
In chapter 9, all pigs have a lot of privileges than other animals. For example, when a pig and any
other animal met on the path, the other animal must stand aside. And only pigs wear green ribbons on
their tails on Sundays. They will try to justify that problem with the reason that they are leading the
animal farm with their intellectual abilities. Of course, if they work much more then other animals, it
can be understood to a certain extent. However, if it continues, it will lead their selfishness. And they
will be conceited and greedy. And as a result, it will lead the political corruption. Like this, privileges
only for some people can not be accepted.

#chapter 10
Uncontrolled power is always corrupted.
In chapter 10, the power of pigs, including Napoleon, is completely corrupted. They changed the
commandment into ‘all animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.’ As time
passes, they became like human beings. Even, they enjoyed drinking and gambling with them.
However, I think that they would not have had a selfish mind from the beginning. Rather at first, it
would have been more for the whole animals. But as they begin to taste the power and privileges, they
have changed. Like this, I think that uncontrolled power is always corrupted. And that corrupt power
is to become a dictator in a society that oppresses individual freedom to maintain their authority.
