COURSE DESCRIPTION : This course is designed to enhance the


knowledge, skills and attitudes of the
students in Agricultural Crop Production
such as production of cereals (rice, corn,
and sorghum), legumes, sugarcane and
coconut. They would be undertaking
safety measures in farm operations using
tools and equipment.

MODULE DESCRIPTION : This module covers the required knowledge,


skills and attitudes required in selecting the
site for planting rice, preparing the land for
planting rice (lowland/upland), selecting
good quality seeds, preparing seedbeds,
sowing seeds, demonstrating proper care
and management of seedlings, pulling and
transplanting seedlings/direct seeding,
fertilizing rice plant, performing irrigation
and drainage practices, weeding and their
control, controlling pests and diseases,
harvesting, threshing, drying and storing
rice seeds, marketing rice seeds, preparing
and keeping farm records and accounts.

the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI).

LO 4. Prepare seedbeds, sow seeds and demonstrate proper care and
management of seedlings

Assessment Criteria:

1. The seedbed is cleared from weeds and other obstructions.


2. The seedbed is plowed and harrowed 2 to 3 times alternately to bring
the soil into a good tilt.
3. The seedbed is paddled and leveled for better seed germination.
4. The seeds are soaked and incubated following the procedures and
standards set in the Rice Production Manual.
5. Seedlings are irrigated in accordance with procedures and standards
set in the Integrated Pests Management (IPM) for rice production.
6. The recommended kind and rate of fertilizer is applied following the
appropriate methods of applying fertilizer.
7. The seedlings are sprayed with the right kind and dosage of pesticides
to control insect pests and diseases as the need arises.
8. The seedbed is provided with the required amount of water to sustain
growth.

the panicle.
