My Reflection on the movie “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo”

Watching this movie made me realize how Andres Bonifacio was important and played a huge
role in the Philippine revolutionary and was one of the key figures in the country's struggle for
independence from Spanish colonial rule. It was inspiring how he had little formal education but
never gives up on his family and worked odd jobs to help support them. He co-founded the secret
society called Katipunan, which aimed to overthrow Spanish rule in the Philippines. Under
Bonifacio's amazing leadership, the Katipunan grew rapidly. The organization was discovered by
the Spanish authorities in August, and Bonifacio was forced to launch a premature revolt against
the colonial government. They have a nationalistic heart to prove our point that this is our
country, although the uprising was initially successful, the better-equipped and better-trained
Spanish forces eventually defeated the Filipino rebels.

Therefore, in this movie, Bonifacio's leadership was also challenged by another revolutionary
leader, Emilio Aguinaldo, who declared himself the leader of the revolution. Bonifacio and his
brother Procopio were arrested on suspicion of treason by Aguinaldo's forces. They were later
tried and convicted by a military court, with Aguinaldo himself presiding over the trial. I was
saddened when I watched the brothers sentenced to death, and they were executed in the
mountains of Maragondon. His story inspires me and many people that’s why Bonifacio is
remembered as a hero of the Philippine Revolution and is known as the "Father of the Philippine
Revolution." His contributions to the country's struggle for independence have been celebrated in
numerous monuments, books, and films like the one that I just watched. Katipunan was a secret
revolutionary society and reflecting on the movie it played a crucial role in the Philippine
struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. The importance of Katipunan lies in the
fact that it served as the motivation for the Philippine Revolution, which ultimately led to the
country's independence from Spain. The organization being created played a key role in uniting
many groups and factions under the common goal of independence, and its members carried out
consisting uprisings and rebellions against Spanish colonial forces.
In conclusion, in this movie, I learned that the encouraging ideals of Katipunan also made the
way for the development of a distinct Philippine national identity, as the organization promotes
the use of the Tagalog language and other aspects of Filipino culture. In addition to its historical
significance, Katipunan continues to inspire and influence modern-day movements for social and
political change in the Philippines. Its principles of self-determination, national unity, and
resistance against oppression continue to resonate with Filipinos who seek to create a more just
and equal society.
