FE Analysis 1
1. Introduction

In this week, the moment distribution method will be revised for BEAMS

You are asked to perform:

• Step1: hand calculation of two continuous beams

• Step2: the design and analysis of the same beams using ANSYS & LinePro

FE Analysis 2
2. Example 1
Given: Consider a 2-span beam subject to a uniformly distributed load, encastered (fixed – no rotation
or translation) at its ends. Assume EI = 106 N.m2

FE Analysis 3
2. Example 1
Step1:

Fixed End Moments:

FE Analysis 5
2. Example 1
Step2:

Design and Analysis using ANSYS

How to design: follow the same procedure

as shown in Week1:
• Divide the beam into 9 nodes at 1m
each

• Set any section A, and height h

• Set EI = 106 N.m2

• Use steel materials

FE Analysis 6
3. Example 2
Given: Consider a 3-span beam subject to a uniformly distributed and concentrated load, encastered
(fixed – no rotation or translation) at its ends. This Example was modeled in Week1
