Part II. Look for pictures of various measuring devices used in electricity and magnetism,
then be able to explain the use of those devices.

NAME OF PICTURE THE USE

DEVICE
Ammeter They can be used to check whether a wire
has current flowing through it, indicating
whether the building’s wiring is correct.
They can also be used to find problems
with electrical equipment, such as
malfunctions, short circuits, and other
problems. A polarized two-terminal device
serves as the ideal ammeter. It establishes a
series connection with the circuit
component in order to gauge the direction
and strength of the current flowing through
it.
Volt meter A tool for measuring the voltage in a circuit
between two points. We use the two
terminals of the voltmeter and connect
them to the circuit at these precise points in
order to calculate the potential difference
between two points of the circuit (in
parallel).

Ohmmeter Devices that measure electrical resistance

in a circuit using the Ohm unit of
measurement. We use them in installations
where proper resistance is critical for the
proper operation of an electronic device.
They can also determine whether or not the
current flow is continuous. Ohmmeters can
be analog or digital, with digital having
higher accuracy and being easier to read.

Multimeter A general-purpose instrument for

measuring voltage, current, resistance, and,
on occasion, other quantities. This device
combines several measurement functions
into a single device/unit and is mostly
hand-held, making it portable and useful for
basic fault finding and field service work.
A multimeter typically includes:
A display that shows the measurement in
four digits and with a negative sign.
A knob that allows us to program the
multimeter to read a specific value AND
Ports for grounding and measuring large
currents, voltages, and so on.
Two black and red probes are plugged into
the front ports, with the black one
representing the '-' and the red one
representing the '+'.
Gaussmeters It consists primarily of the following.
>Hall Effect devices create a voltage
between the two edges of a current-carrying
conductor whose faces are perpendicular to
a magnetic field in order to convert the
magnetic field's energy into an electrical
signal.

>Magnetodiodes are two-terminal Hall

effect electronics that resemble bipolar
diodes in the traditional sense. A
magnetodiode's voltage-current
characteristics are magnetic field-sensitive.

>Bipolar transistors implemented on

semiconductor surfaces make up
magnetotransistors. A collector region, an
elongated base region, and an emitter
region make up the three prongs of these
devices. A pulse is produced on the

transmission line when a magnetic field

exists in the base region, producing a Hall
effect voltage.
Magnetomete Magnetometers are devices for measuring
rs magnetic fields that are highly sensitive to
low-strength fields. They can be
categorized as vector or scalar devices
according to their capacity to detect both
field strength and direction. Only
magnitude is measured by scalar
magnetometers. Magnitude and direction
are both measured by vector
magnetometers.
conductivity This tool allows you to measure the
meter conductance of a solution by passing an
alternating electrical current between the
two electrodes in the probe. The cations
(ions with a + charge) move to the negative
electrode as the electrical current is applied
to the solution, and the anions (ions with a
– charge) move to the positive electrode.
The solution becomes conductive as a
result of the ions’ movement.
Oscilloscope Oscilloscope A laboratory tool called an
oscilloscope is frequently used to show and
examine the waveform of electronic
signals. The instrument essentially plots a
graph of the instantaneous signal voltage
against time.
