Introduction
The second express highway built from Colombo- Katunayake is set to reduce travel time to the airport. The
CKE constructed through the Muthurajawela Marshland, travels along the Negombo lagoon and falls on to the
Canada Friendship Road leading to the Bandaranaike International Airport. The CKE connects to the Outer
Circular Highway at Kerawalapitiya, which in turn is connected to the Southern Expressway.

It is proposed to construct additional MTC lane and Ramp widening at Ja-Ela. The report consist with load
evaluation for the new structural elements, stability calculations and the preliminary design calculations.

The ETAB and PROKON software are used for the design calculations. .

= 1000 KPa x π x (200)2 x10-6m2 + (π x 0.4m )(40 KPa x 9m + 150 KPa x 2m)
= 955.0 KN

For Tension Pile


Qf = Pile Weight + Skin Friction x 50%
= Pile Weight + Skin friction coefficient x AS x 50%
= π x 0.2m2 x 11m x 24 KN/m3 + (π x 0.4m)(40 KPa x 9m + 150 KPa x 2m) x 0.5

 Pile properties are as follows;

 GWT of the lane lies at a depth of 1.00 m.

Slope Stability Analysis

 The slope stability analysis was done by using Slide 6.005 software and above
geotechnical parameters were used for the analysis.

10 x ddiameter of pile

 The anti-slide pile should be extend by 10xPile diameter from the failure plane.

Slope Stability - Global failure

Factor of Safety for above two cases are greater than 1.5. Hence Slope is safe.

Conclusion

 The structure is satisfactory to accommodate serviceability considerations and the


strength requirements.

Recommendation
 Consolidation settlement analysis shall be done by the Geotechnical Engineer.

 Pre-loading height shall be given by the Geotechnical Engineer.
