A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science V
I. Learning Outcomes
Given a simple circuit, the Grade 5 pupils they must have:
1. identified the components of a simple circuit;
2. differentiated conductors and insulators; and
3. inferred the conditions necessary to make a light bulb in a simple circuit.

II. Subject matter

C. Materials: simple circuit, aluminum foil, metal spoon, paper, plastic cup, comb, plastic
spoon, rubber band, sharpened pencil, objects inside the classroom, PowerPoint, GIF,
images and, activity sheets
D. Science Ideas/Concepts:
 Electric circuit – flow of electric current
 Source – the source of electric current
 Load – device that uses the electric current
 Switch – controls the flow of electric current
 Conductors – materials that allow electricity to pass through
 Insulators – materials that do not allow electricity to pass through
E. Science Process Skills:
Observing
Inferring
Communication
Interpreting data
F. Scientific attitudes/Values Infused:
Knowing safety precautions handling electrical devices

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

A. Preliminaries
1. Setting of Rules and Standards
The teacher will set some rules
and standards to the class.
The pupils will follow the classroom rules.
2. Review
Activity: Throwback Tuesday
The teacher will facilitate the
review through Socratic method.
The pupils will answer the questions.
3. Science Trivia
The teacher will introduce a trivia
about Alexander Volta. The pupils will listen to the trivia.
4. Preparation
Activity: Switch Me Off
The teacher will show light bulbs
on the screen. Each light bulb has The pupils will pick a light bulb and they should

questions to pupils.

8. Application
Activity: Which is which? Turn on
the Switch!

The teacher will provide set of The pupils will be given a set of materials. They
objects and an activity sheet. will attach the item to the circuit and observe if
the light bulb will be lit. They will use the
activity sheet to record their answers. They
would raise their light sticks if the object made
the light bulb glowed brightly, dimly, or not lit.
