• DesignLife can be accessed directly


– no interaction with Workbench
– used to access results files from other FE programs
– used to save .flo file

• DesignLife workflow is constructed in the Workspace


– glyphs are obtained from Glyph Palette
– data is obtained from Available Data

• Glyphs perform actions


– input FE results
– input fatigue properties
– import loading
– perform fatigue calculations
– plot fatigue results
– list fatigue results
– create reports
– many more

• Glyphs are dropped onto Workspace

• Workflow is constructed by connecting glyphs at Pads by Pipes


– data flows from left to right through the pipes

Data and Processes Customer Training Material

• Processes and data are separate items

• Processes include glyphs, pipes, and properties


– do not contain data

• Process is saved as a .flo file


– File > RMB > Save Process

• Data flows through the process


– time series, histograms, FE results, etc.

• Process and data are saved together as a .fdb file


– File > RMB > Save Process With Data

FE_Input Glyph Customer Training Material

• FE_Input Glyph imports FE model and results


– results files can be accessed from Properties or by dragging results files
from Available Data onto FE_Input glyph
– dragging a results file from Available Data into the Workspace will
automatically create a FE_Input glyph

Executing Processes Customer Training Material

• Processes are executed using the “VCR” buttons on the tool bar
– runs one glyph at a time
– runs the entire process

• “In Process” light turns red as each glyph processes data

Summary Customer Training Material

• Overall DesignLife process is called a workflow

• Glyphs are the action blocks in the process


– connected at Pads by Pipes
– right click to access properties

• Processes include glyphs, pipes, and properties


– often built around five basic actions
• so called “5 box trick”
– data flows through the process
– stored in .flo file

• DesignLife database (.fdb) file contains process and data
