Summary:
The author wants to introduce human metabolism mechanisms. Firstly, Dr Gunter explains
what metabolism is, using a very simple definition. An explanation is supported by clear
animations, which show examples of metabolism components in our body. Dr Gunter
concludes that most of our calorie requirement is taken by our base metabolic processes like
a heart beating, thinking and breathing. The author also demystifies the correlation between
slow metabolism and fat people. The speed of our metabolism is defined by genetics,
changing a few times during our life. It can’t be changed by extra exercises, so all the special
tricks presented on TV are nothing more than just a marketing speech.
