The function of the Fuel Tank Sacavenge system is to remove water and fuel from the
lowest point of the tank to prevent corrosion. This system transfers fuel from the central tank to tank
# 1 when the left front pump is on and tank # 1 with less than 1990kg of fuel.

FUEL STORAGE – WATER SCAVENGE SYSTEM

The function of this system is to remove water from the lowest point of the 03 tanks to prevent
corrosion. Jet Pump output discards fuel and water collected near Boost Pumps inlet. This
mechanism is coupled to each of the center tank pumps and rear wing pumps.

The fueling float switches prevent over-fueling the fuel tanks. The fueling float switches remove
power to the fueling valves when the fuel level in the tank is full. The fueling float switches have a
float that is in a cylindrical container. When the tank is less than full, the float switch lets power go
to the fueling valve solenoid. When the tank gets full, the fueling float switch removes power to
the fueling valve solenoid.

General
Fueling placards, with instructions for fueling, are on the fueling station door. Use these placards
when fueling the aircraft. The fueling station receives power when the fueling station door
opens.

Each tank has 02 electric fuel pumps, all powered by 115 V AC. The central tank pumps can supply
at least 23 PSI of pressure, with a minimum flow of 9,071 kg / h. The higher outlet pressure of the
center tank shoulders ensures that the engines first consume the entire contents of the center
tank. Main tank pumps can supply a minimum of 10 PSI of pressure, with a minimum flow of 9,071
kg / h.

Crossfeed Valve is electrically controlled on the fuel system panel. Its function is to allow fuel
flow between both Fuel Manifolds. With the connection made between the Fuel Manifolds, it is
possible to feed an engine with fuel from the opposite tank.

ENGINE FUEL FEED - COMPONENT LOCATION

The Emergency Fuel Shutoff Valve is a device used when the Hot Battery Bus voltage drops below
22v to close the Spar Valves or APU Fuel Shutoff Valve. This ensures that even if there is no more
electrical power available to the engines, there will be enough power to close the valves and cut
the engine fuel.

Center Tank Boost Pump Motor
The motor has the impeller and uses 3-phase, 115v ac power. It is inside the housing.

Pressure Switch
The low pressure switch sends a low center tank boost pump pressure signal to the LOW
PRESSURE light (P5).

 In June 2001 the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued


special federal aviation regulation SFAR-88, which requires
transport-category aircraft manufacturers to modify fuel systems to
eliminate the possibility of an ignition source developing within a
fuel tank.
 Our ground fault isolation solutions meet the SFAR-88 requirements,
and our products are compatible with the wiring interfaces,
footprints and form factors of the components that they replace.

 Although no protection system is perfect, the ground fault detection


technology substantially reduces the chance of electrically induced
combustion within aircraft fuel tanks.

 To aid in troubleshooting, all Leach brand FCD and GFI components


come with a built-in test feature to allow aircraft mechanics to verify
that fault sensing is functional. As well as a visual trip indicator on each
device that alerts mechanics that a ground fault has occurred.

(CDCCL) BEFORE RESET.

All fuel pumps have a GFI - Ground Fault Interrupter. Its function is to detect and protect the pumps
against short circuit or phase unbalance of the pump electrical supply. Both failures can cause
pumps to overheat and increase the risk of tank explosion.

The dimmed Spar Valve Closed indication indicates that the position of the Engine Start Lever
matches the current position of the valve. If there is a disagree between positions, the indication
will remain bright. The same concept applies to Crossfeed Valve Open and Engine Valve Closed
indication.

General
