URBAN GARDENER

In an era of dwindling natural resources & faltering environmental equilibr-

ium, there is an urgent need for urban communities to adopt self-sufficient
& self-sustaining ways of life.

As an urban gardener of over a decade, I developed the Compton Community

Garden in my hometown of Compton/Long Beach to provide free organic
foods & community programming to a deeply under-resourced South Los
Angeles in the midst of a decades-long food apartheid.

DESIGNER

Working across the mediums of footwear design, graphic/visual design,

and sound design, there is a concentric point through which my distinct
perspective is tangibly discernable; informed by the subcultures and
underground communities within which I have found an artistic home base.
COMPTON COMMUNITY GARDEN

“A communal effort to directly address ecological

& social inequalities in Compton and beyond.
We grow organic foods year round rooted in South LA’s
soil & community.”

Compton Community Garden is a communal effort to directly address social and ecological inequalities
in Compton & beyond. We are an entirely organic, regenerative, and community-run garden. CCG’s core
mission is to feed healthy natural foods to the immediate community in Compton & North Long Beach for
free; to act as a resource for community empowerment & ecological consciousness, encouraging a more
shared, self-sustaining way of life in harmony with the natural world.

Beyond a place to grow & feed, Compton Community Garden is a hub for social & cultural exchange - a
safe space for exploring mental health, direct democracy, music, indigenous practices, ideologies, and
life experiences. We host free & open-to-the-public workshops & programming on organic gardening, bee-
keeping, food insecurity, vermicompost, vertical farming, reintegration, soil biology - and much more!

Through cultivating diverse community, CCG treats gardening as a social and spiritual practice, feeding
our bodies, minds & communities synergistically.

This system is not a curriculum. It’s a process imbued in

everything No.One creates. It is structured disorder in nine
interconnected parts, operating as one. While it appears
paradoxical, it’s less a method to control the unknown and
more a way to extract as much from it as possible. A clarity
within the chaos.

Energy and inspiration comes from a trilogy of concentric

circles. Specific studies of four worlds are emphasized on the
outside, connecting to three key disciplines that operate as
one, with a more metaphysical core at its center. Nothing will
emerge from No.One without being a result of the system.
No one element supersedes another. There is no single order
in which to read the diagram. To truly understand is to em-
brace what can’t be understood yet.

History plays its part, but only as a stepping stone to the

next. No histrionics. No unnecessary bombast. Through the
practical, an understanding of how best to execute the new
emerges. Through the theoretical, we push the potential.

Beyond this system and striving for the very best solutions
possible — where there will be no half-measures, ever — little
else is certain.
