SMART goals:
Transport: Inputs that are required for the masks will not undergo unnecessary movements, even if
its cheaper. Items used for masks must be delivered on time to ensure waiting, motion, and
inventory of elements of waste are avoided. The transport of outputs once the final mask is made
will also see direct shipping methods.
Inventory: Inputs that required to make the masks will have little inventory to avoid storage costs as
having a large amount of inputs will be seen as costs therefore a FI-FO method while be in place to
ensure all stock is used before more is ordered
Motion: Machines that move for no reason that doesn’t add value is not efficient or effective as it
valuable time wasted doing nothing. Sowing machines will serve a strict purpose of only placing
materials together therefore not restricting motion time.
Waiting: Machines that are doing nothing is seen as waiting as they are waiting for the input
materials to ensure they become an output. Therefore, all input material will be purchased before to
ensure machines are being effective and efficient
Overproduction: To ensure that we as a company are not producing too much outputs, orders that
are placed will be based on the “made to order” rule, where when an order is placed then a mask
will be made. If the market changes and masks become in high demand, then we will be being to
create high volumes of masks for fast dispatch.
Over-processing: By adding to much detail which does not add value to the mask will be a cost as the
masks are primarily based on durability, reliability, and practicality. Therefore, a mask that has a little
star on it to make it look so call “cool” will be over processing as the little star does not add value to
the mask. Whereas durability, reliability and practicality to the mask will ensure consumers are
paying for what they get.
Defects: To ensure our products are defect free, inspections will be done prior to when inventory
materials are delivered to us before production starts and once the all products have been made
several tests will be taken to ensure, durability, reliability and practicality. If defects are found during
production or after they have been sent out to consumers then a product recall will be announced,
and a full refund or replacement will be given.
Talent: If an individual’s skills is not used to the max capacity then it will impact the production
process and therefore decrease efficiency and effectiveness which is something the company can
not afford.
With the current mask’s future improvements such as air filters to improve the quality of air that
enters the lungs. If the COVID-19 situation gets to a point where the air that humans breathe is
contaminated an can significantly impact the lungs and allow individuals to potentially test positive
then a filtered vent designed into the mask will allow the toxic air to be bypassed and not enter our
lungs.
