I am a first-year law student at University of Nebraska College of Law and I am writing to apply

While I was going to college I, unfortunately, did not get many opportunities for public service
due to a combination of it being a small town, work, and school. However, since moving to
Lincoln in the summer I have volunteered at several organizations to learn more about public
interest work and to be able to serve my community. During the summer I helped at the Center
for People in Need by distributing food and necessities to low-income families. In the weeks
leading up to the election, I volunteered with Planned Parenthood to call people to remind them
of it, give out information about candidates, and answer questions about where to vote and how
to register. I have also been volunteering with the Debtors Defense Project to go to the
courthouse and hand out flyers and give information to individuals awaiting court since many
have never dealt with the process before. Helping the Lincoln community has been very
important to me since I believe I will continue to live and work here long-term after graduation.
