Step 1
Think of a service or technology that reduces carbon emissions. You may choose from the list below
or come up with your own idea:
Transportation: public transportation, car or ride-sharing services, hybrid and electric cars, biofuel,
bicycle promotion programs
Electrical use: Energy Star® appliances, fluorescent and LED light bulbs, wind power, solar power,
hydropower
Heating and cooling: green buildings, solar heat, eco-roofs, insulation, geothermal
Business and industry: tree-planting programs, CO2 emissions trading, green product design

Step 2
Do research on this service or technology. Find out how it works, how much it costs, and how much it
reduces carbon emissions.

Step 3
Share your research with the class.

Listening Task
Listen to your classmates’ presentations. Ask your classmates a question about something you don’t
understand completely, or ask them to give you more information. What is one interesting fact you
learned about each presentation? Which methods do you think are the best at reducing carbon
emissions?
