livestock raising and selective breeding. It is the management and care of
animals in which the genetic qualities and behavior of animals are further
developed for profit. A large number of farmers depend upon animal
husbandry for their livelihood.

AGRONOMY

is the application of science and technology from the fields of biology,

chemistry, economics, ecology, soil science, water science, pest management
and genetics to the improvement and management of the major food crops of
the world.

AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

sciences dealing with food and fibre production and processing. They include
the technologies of soil cultivation, crop cultivation and harvesting, animal
production, and the processing of plant and animal products for human
consumption and use.

SOIL SCIENCE

is the study of soil as a natural resource on the surface of the earth including
soil genesis, classification and mapping, physical, chemical and biological soil
properties. The different soil properties are important for crop suitability and
relevant factors to consider when it comes to proper land use.

POMOLOGY

is a branch of horticulture that focuses on the cultivation, production, harvest,

and storage of fruit, especially tree fruits. Fruit orchards can be found
worldwide, and tree fruits are a major industry in many countries, making
pomology especially vital.
AGRIBUSINESS

refers to agriculture-related activities that put farmers, processors,

distributors, and consumers within a system that produces, processes,
transports, markets, and distributes agricultural products.

ORGANIC FARMING

is defined as production of crop, animal, and other products without the use of
synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides, transgenic species, or antibiotics
and growth-enhancing steroids, or other chemicals.

CROP PRODUCTION

and marketing of vegetables or the farming of plants for use of edible parts. It
is the science of growing vegetables and non- herbaceous plants for food.

ANIMAL SCIENCE

is a four-year course under the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program.

The program plays a significant role in addressing the problems of low farm
productivity and food shortages in the country.

PLANT PATHOLOGY

is the science that studies the causes of plant diseases, the mechanisms by
which diseases develop in individual plants and in plant populations, and the
ways and means by which plant diseases can be managed or controlled.

PLANT PHYSIOLOGY

is the study of plant function and behaviour, encompassing all the dynamic
processes of growth, metabolism, reproduction, defence, and communication
that account for plants being alive.
