Answer the following question.

1. In your own words, define homeostasis.

- I think homeostasis is our ability or habit to maintain our flood stability in the
organism so that it can compensate for the changes in our environment. The best and
well -known example of homeostasis is a person’s body that needs an average
temperature of 98.6 degrees.

2. Give another body processes showing negative and positive feedback mechanisms.

- The amplification of labor contractions is a clear example of positive feedback. As

the baby moves into position, extending the cervix beyond its usual position,
contractions begin. The feedback makes the contractions stronger and more frequent
before the baby is born. The stretching ends after birth, and the loop is broken.

- When a variable is higher or lower set point, many homeostatic mechanisms, such as
temperature, respond differently. We sweat as the temperature rises, and we shiver
when the temperature drops. Different effectors are used to change the variable in
these responses. In other instances, a feedback loop would use the same effector to
return the variable to the set point, regardless of whether the original adjustment of
the variable was positive or negative.
