LEXINGTON, Va. – WLUnite, a Washington and Lee University club focused on issues relating
to disabilities and accessibility, will be hosting a virtual fundraiser for the American Association
of People with Disabilities (AAPD) during the week of Thanksgiving.
The event will be held through the club’s Instagram account. The post will be in the style of a
bingo card, with various donation amounts ranging from $1 to $5, that asks people to donate to
the club’s Venmo account. All of the proceeds collected will then be donated to the AAPD.
WLUnite will be posting this bingo card on social media to help raise money for AAPD.
“I’m very excited for our first fundraiser,” Alexandra Miyamoto, founder and president of
WLUnite, said. “As a disabled student, the work that AAPD does for our community means a
lot, and I’m happy that we can support them.”
The fundraiser will be held from Nov. 23 to Nov. 27. More information about the fundraiser will
be available at WLUnite’s Instagram account (@wlunite).
“The pandemic has shown how severe the inequity is between disabled people and able-bodied
people,” Miyamoto said. “We hope that our donation can help support the AAPD’s goals for a
more equitable and inclusive society.”
To support the AAPD, you can participate in WLUnite’s fundraiser this Thanksgiving on
Instagram or go directly to this link to donate.
