I. RESEARCH PROBLEM (Background of the Problem):

During the coronavirus outbreak, teachers were obliged to alter their traditional teaching methods for
classes that now take place online on occasion. Readers will have the chance to ask questions on how
COVID-19 has not improved math success, instruction, assessment, and engagement during this online
conference. Math is challenging for many people, but some students find it more difficult than others.
These could be brilliant students who have a strong sense of logic and reasoning yet struggle with
schoolwork, tests, and quizzes. Repeated underperformance in arithmetic can lead to a student's
demotivation and the belief that he or she is "dumb" or "bad" at the subject.
Furthermore, because math is cumulative, a student who falls behind may miss out on a significant
portion of what is taught for the remainder of the school year. Having fundamental math skills is vital
regardless of which career path one takes. That's why it's critical to spot problems early on. Every student
may accomplish his or her full potential in math with the correct combination of classroom adjustments
and learning methodologies.
These are several reasons why a student may struggle with math subject at school, ranging from a lack
of desire due to math anxiety to a lack of comprehension of how to apply and perform mathematical
operations. In fact, many students especially first year junior high school express their dissatisfaction with
math. They may not see why they should learn algebra, geometry, or calculus etc. in new mode of
learning. They may also wonder why they need to be able to.

II. RESEARCH TITLE:

The title of this research study is “Factors Causing Low Mathematical Performance of Grade 7
Students at General de Jesus College During the New Learning Method for 2021-2022”.

III. EVIDENCES: Ten Related Literature

GENERAL DE JESUS COLLEGE
Vallarta St., Poblacion, San Isidro, Nueva Ecija

The large number of students who faced factors causing low mathematical performance, the more it
affects their physical, mental health, and everyday lives as well as the people around them. Aside from
that, this will impart the ways on how to know what are the factors causing low mathematical
performances of grade 7 students at General de Jesus College.

IV. RELATED STUDIES: Five Key Facts about the Problem

This section presents diverse ideas and notions of different authors that are related to the study.
Many students are considered underachievers in mathematics. They are average or above average in
their intelligence but their actual achievement in mathematics did not coincide to their intellectual
capabilities. This study seeks to unearth the factors that affect underachievement in mathematics. There
are three suspected identified factors that will scaffold this study. The first is the instructor element,
which consists of subject matter expertise, instructional approaches and strategies, classroom
management, communication skills, and personality. The second aspect is the student, which includes
study habits, time management, and attitude and enthusiasm in mathematics. The third aspect is the
environment, which includes parental beliefs and attitudes, school circumstances, and peer group.

V. RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Statement of the Problem
The phenomenological study is being conducted to determine the factors causing low
mathematical performance of grade 7 students at General de Jesus College during the new
learning method for 2021-2022.
Specially, the study aimed to provide and answers to following questions:

VI. METHODOLOGY
Research Design
GENERAL DE JESUS COLLEGE
Vallarta St., Poblacion, San Isidro, Nueva Ecija

The descriptive approach was used in this investigation, with a questionnaire created by the
researchers. According to the findings, student characteristics such as study habits, time management, and
attitude toward mathematics are important during this new mode of learning.
Research Locale
This research was conducted in the high school department of General de Jesus College at Vallarta St.,
Poblacion, San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.
Population and Samples

The participants of this study were the Grade 7 students of General de Jesus College for the school year
2021-2022. The Grade 7 students were selected as the participants of the study because they meet the
criteria of being capable of having their own coping methods, perceiving things on their own point of
view and will be asked a series of surveys that will fulfill the objective of the study.
Sampling Procedures
In this study, probability sampling methods is the best technique to use because the respondents
needed in the research are those students causing low mathematical performances in Mathematics. It
involves random selection, allowing you to make strong statistical inferences about the whole group.

Data Gathering Procedure

The basis of the research designed revolves around giving survey questioners to the respondents,
which will provide the needed information to the research study. The researchers based their data
collection from the answers of the participants who answered the survey.
Data Gathering Instrument
The researchers used Quantitative type of research is employed in this study and to be specific,
descriptive approach. Hence, the surveys of the respondents were treated as the data or the needed
information in this study. Therefore, in order to have an accurate information, the researcher exploit are
used method research instruments.
