Safe Working SOP for MEWPs:

1.Purpose:
The purpose of this document is to make sure the safe usage of snorkel while working,
simple recommended guidelines for snorkel at PepsiCo Sunder plant.

2.Scope:
This procedure is applicable to use of snorkel at PepsiCo Sunder Plant.

3. Hazards and Risk Involved:


Fall related injuries.

5: Role & Responsibilities

It is responsibility of team to ensure that all safety precautions and steps should be followed
(Defined in section 4) before executing any activity.

6.Pre-use inspection.

 All fluid levels, including the oil, fuel, and Hydraulic.


 Any fluid leaks.
 Tires health check.
 Battery and charger health.
 Lower-level controls.
 Horns, gauges, lights, backup alarms, and other warning devices.
 Snorkel control panel.
 Operating and emergency controls.
 Snorkel 3P Testing

7. Safety Precautions:
 LOTO compliance should be followed as per EHS guidelines.(Activity Specific)
 Third party certified.
 No unauthorized person operate snorkel.

8. Procedure/Steps Involved:
 Always check Ground condition before start working.

 Always use barricades around the base of Snorkel.


 Third party certified harness with double life line.
 Be sure that all the area is clear before start working.
 Always wear safety Harness when in the basket of snorkel.

 Overhead clearance while moving snorkel.


 Always check what’s above and behind.

 Keep an eye out for overhead objects.


 Objects falling from the platform.
 Be aware from power lines during working at height.

 Stay at least 10 feet away from all power lines and cables.
 If you want to transfer from basket to another elevated surface, use double ended
lanyard for 100% tie-off.

 Workers stand firmly on a bucket floor or platform.


 Workers don’t climb or lean on or over the guardrails .

 High winds and severe weather like heavy rain and ice.

 Don’t exceed the weight limit.(215 kg)


 Finally, remove LOTO and observe the behaviour.
