1. Explain how the following events lead to globalization:
a. Silk Roads –
The Silk Road was a network of trade routes that passed across several Asian areas. This
caused a great deal of integration of beliefs, religions, and cultural influences. Not only this, but
following the Silk Road's influence on globalization, the trade of artistic and architectural styles
also increased and has what led to globalization.

b. Age of Discovery -
The age of discovery began when European explorers connected east and west and
unintentionally found the Americas. The most significant exploration was Magellan's journey,
which removed Arab and Italian middlemen and provided access to the Spice Islands. Although
trade once more remained modest when compared to total GDP, it undoubtedly had a significant
impact on people's lives. In addition to the introduction of potatoes, tomatoes, coffee, and
chocolate to Europe, spice prices also dropped significantly. With that, global trade kicked off
which led to the advancement of globalization.

c. Industrial Revolution -
The Industrial Revolution provided a massive change in economic and social organization.
From the industrial revolution onward, the international economy was strongly tied and the
regions became more dependent on each other. Agriculture and handicrafts-based economies
were replaced by economies based on large-scale industry, automated manufacturing, and the
factory system during the Industrial Revolution. Existing industries become more productive and
efficient as a result of new equipment, power sources, and organizational techniques. This is what
led to globalization today which is still improving at a fast pace.

2. Explain why only after the collapse of the former Soviet Union that globalization is
considered to be truly a global phenomenon.
The World Trade Organization was established in the following of the end of the Soviet
Union. As a result, it pushed for the creation of free-trade agreements among all countries, even
several that had just gained its independence. Even China, which had been an independent,
agrarian economy for the most of the 20th century, joined the WTO in 2001 and began producing
goods for the rest of the globe. At the same time, the internet, a new invention of the Third
Industrial Revolution, further enhanced global connectivity. This promoted globalization even
more.
