4. chain block, wire sling

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Note: work to be performed on vertical centrifugal pump involves the removal of the coupling bolts of
motor suspending and isolating the same.
PROCEDURE
1. Volute casing front cover was removed after loosening the casing nuts and bolts (jack up if necessary).
2. Gland packing cover was disconnected and all old packing removed.
3. The shaft with - impeller, shaft sleeve, wearing was taken to the work bench.
4. Impeller locking nut at the shaft free end was removed.
5. Key removed and kept safe.
6. Impeller which is free now can be removed using a puller.
7. Bearing was removed and kept for heating for ease of fitting.
8. All parts were cleaned using a buffing machine to remove any scale formations and eroded surfaces.

9. Wear ring clearances were checked and if not within the limit it was removed.
10. Gland packing area on the shaft sleeve was checked. If scoring marks are prominent which then sleeve
replaced.
11. Bearing if worn out replaced or the old one is used.
12. Impeller blades were checked for erosion of blade material and corrosion.
13. Impeller was remounted and locked with lock nut.
14. Shaft was connected to the motor coupling, key in place.
15. Front half casing cover was boxed back with new paper joint and tightened.
16. Gland packing to be checked if in place and cover tightened.
17. Shaft rotated for one revolution and check for freeness.
18. All connections were given back and pump primed.
