Indonesia’s Pertamina Oil Pipeline Explosion Kills At Least 13, Injures 29

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A fire followed by a massive explosion occurred at a fuel storage depot of
Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina in North Jakarta on Friday evening, March 3,
killing at least 13 people and about 29 were injured.

This was reported on the board of the Fire Rescue Tactical Command Post near the scene as of 10:45
p.m. local time.

A kompas.com journalist at the scene saw dead victims kept in body bags lining the floors of the
command post.

Meanwhile, the injured persons have been brought to the hospitals nearby, such as Koja, Tugu, Mulya
Sari, and the port.

An officer at the command post said his party continued to update information about the number of
victims.

Earlier, the company’s Marketing Operation Region III confirmed that a fire broke out in the fuel
receiving pipe at the Plumpang Depot in North Jakarta Friday evening.

"There was an incident where the fuel receiving pipe erupted into flames at the Jakarta Fuel Integrated
Terminal in Plumpang," the company’s Communication Relations and CSR Unit Manager Eko Kristiawan
said via text message on Friday.

Based on information from the Command Center for the Fire and Safety Management Agency, a distress
call was received at 08:11 p.m. local time.
