Popularize The Forgotten Palembang Food

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background
Indonesian traditional culinary is all types of cuisine originating from various regions
throughout the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Recipes and how to make
traditional culinary dishes are usually passed down from generation to generation. Traditional
culinary flavors that are typical of one region will be different from other regions. That is
why traditional culinary has a lot of uniqueness and is rich in various flavors. There is no
specific reference that can mention the exact number of traditional culinary delights in
Indonesia.
Indonesia is an archipelagic country. Each island has its own culture. This is what makes
Indonesia one of the countries with the most culture in the world. In fact, it is not uncommon
for indigenous Indonesian culture to be loved by many neighboring countries. Like a group of
Dutch students studying Javanese culture, to be more precise, gamelan. Or batik, which is the
result of Indonesia's original culture, was opposed by Malaysia. However, thanks to the
persistence of the Indonesian people to maintain batik as one of the nation's cultures, batik
remains an Indonesian culture and has received recognition from the world.
One of the cultures that Indonesia has is traditional culinary. Each region has a different
traditional culinary and is the hallmark of that area. Like Central Java, which is known for its
sweet taste, or Manado, which is known for its people who like spicy flavors the most, and so
on. Culture is one thing that must be preserved, as well as traditional Indonesian cuisine
which must be preserved by introducing it to the younger generation. Don't let Indonesia's
younger generation get to know culinary from western culture which is now rampant in
Indonesia.
