DESIGN IS A WAY
OF THINKING......

INTRODUCTION

Design thinking is a process of solving problems by prioritizing the consumer’s needs

above all else. Design thinking is “Human Centered” , which means that it empthize the What makes home? What do calmness and peace have to
user’s to solve problems. do with it? and why it is so important for us to feel like we
belong? In this collection of slides, five of us, the design-
er heads, have explored the most soulful area semi-open
space, near FMS-2, named by us, “UKIYO-living in the
moment”. Our approach towards it is through the tools of
design thinking by visualising the inclusivity of the space.
OUR OUR TEAM
PROJECT

Our project was to

choose a space from
our NIFT campus
and to re-design it
by using the Design
Thinking Meth-
ods and tools. Our
project started with

observing the space
and empathizing by
conducting research
to develop an under-
standing of our users
and to define the
user’s problems/pain
points. From gener-
ating a range of crazy
to creative ideas and
building real, tactile
representation for a Juhi Dubey Mansi Ahuja
range of our ideas ,
we as a time came
up with best possible
design interventions
for the space.

ROADMAP

The whole process of our project com-

prises mainly 4 stages; named as Ob-
servation , Engagement , Ideation , and
Redesigning. Each step was important to
understand the baisc core of user’s prob-
lem and to come up with most possible Redesigning
solutions.

OBSERVATION
1
Activity started with mind mapping session within the group. We all sat down after
observing the space, and wrote the words or thoughts that came to our mind , seing
that place. All 5 of us , came with many different things and we saw there wwas some-
thing common between all of our’s thoughts and they were connected to some extent.

I like this place alot because I and my mandali friends come and practice here for drama competi-
tions. Earlier, I don’t used to visit here , but soon after becoming part of Mandali , this place beame
my ever ready visited place to meet and chill. One thing I don’t like about this place is the bird drop-
pings and during monsoon , the floor becomes wet and slippery , due to which it becomes difficult to
practice there. If something could be done, then this problem should be solved.

I feel very refreshing here. In my foundation year , I used to sit and talk with my
friends here. It’s quiet and good place . I feel very connected here as I have both
good and bad times here. and also I got to make new friends at this place. Apart

here and there , as there is no dustbin available, it gets dirty sometimes. Other- lege after mess. Although, we like it very much , there is one thing which is very trou-
sie, I personally like this place a lot. It is very motivating for me when I sit there blesome for us to sit for long time is the sittings. Othewise, it is very soothing place.ww

When a assignment wraps up, you hope to take away
several things. Experience, new knowledge, at least the
estimated value of the project –those are all common
expectations. What we learnt by doing this assignment is
the importance of understanding the user’s needs. We
TAKEAWAY design for the users and that has to be utmost of their
use. We all together as a team , tried our best to conduct
this activity in a very sequential and observing manner.
We tried to come up with various possible interventions
that was needed and demanded by the users. We hope ,
our learnings will definitely help us in future to become
good designer.
