The city where I was born

Huancayo, capital of the department of Junín. It is a Regional Metropolis of the Central

Macrosystem, it has a population of more than 456,250 inhabitants and an intercensal growth rate of
1.8%. The city is made up of 4 districts.
Called the incontrovertible, it is a hectic commercial and tourist center in the middle of the stillness
of the Andes. It is also a unique symbol of the pride of an entire people. For centuries, the Mantaro
Valley was the scene of the raids of the Huancas, an ancient enemy of the Incas, who were subdued
by Pachacútec in the s. XV.
The inhabitants of Huancayo are proud to keep their traditions intact, proof of this are the
monuments that are erected in many sectors of the city in homage to the "Huanca identity". Also
noteworthy are the artisan neighborhoods of Tambo and San Jerónimo, whose inhabitants have been
making ceramics and silverware since time immemorial. In the nearby town of Ingenio, visitors can
take a break on their journey and enjoy delicious trout taken from the many natural hatcheries in the
area.
In other provinces of the department of Junín, such as Concepción, there are marvels such as the
Ocopa Convent, or the Paca lagoon, in Jauja. And when it comes to culinary skills, the Huancaínos
have the largest variety of typical dishes and exotic stews: Papa a la Huancaína (potatoes with a
cheese sauce), Human Caldo (ram's head broth), Patachi (soup wheat and bacon) and Huallca
Chupe (chicken broth with vegetables), are just some of the dishes that you can enjoy to the sound
of the Huayllars, Chonguinadas and Sahapis, typical dances of the region.
