IDENTIFIED HAZARD AND ITS CONTROL
HAZARD CONTROL
Slip / Trip Use walkways, handrails, be observant, keep safe distance from
moving equipment.
Falls Always wear full body harness if standing near railing and
working at height
Falling Object Use safety helmet, never stand below load
Material Handling Use safe work practice for Material Handling to avoid any injury
Electric Shock due Before excavation U/G Utility to be identification , use cable locator
prefer manual excavation to avoid cable cutting
Fall inside of pit Keep the excavated area well barricaded 1.0 m from the edge / Put
warning signal 11
IDENTIFIED HAZARD AND ITS CONTROL
HAZARD CONTROL
Physical Injury due to Worker to be always alert against such injuries
sharp edges/ Material and should use necessary PPEs
Walking from work Avoid walking to eliminate accident hazard on roads
Road Traffic Be careful while working with speeding road traffic in
vicinity display caution boards and use blinkers
Heat Exhaustion Use helmet to keep head moist, drink more water, move in
shade when no work
Snake /Scorpion biting Disturb the bush with stick before entering or removing it
12
EHS REQUIREMENTS-1-PPE
13
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is an essential part of every worker’s defense against accidental injury:
15
3-NO HORSEPLAY
16
4-ALWAYS CLEARUP YOUR OWN RUBBISH
20
8-No Radio / Mobile/Audio Player at site
You are required to work safely and use plant and equipment
correctly…they are YOUR responsibility

14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
CONTROLS
1-Fall from height
• Always use full body harness when working at height
• Tools, tackles etc are not to be carried in hands while climbing.
• Use tool kit or rope for lifting tools at work area.
• Ladder must be free of oil/grease and any defect.
• Do not use scaffolding braces for climbing up, use ladders
• Gloves with good grip must be used while climbing.
• Use PPE'S required, must be used while removal of scaffolding and working under structure
32
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
CONTROLS
2&3-Mass Collapse of Soil /Scaffolding/
Structure/ Equipment
• If work is at depth, ensure that all the
sides at the top are sloped to avoid
collapse of loose earth
• Maintain good housekeeping on the
edges and should be free from nails,
wires sharp objects wooden planks steel
materials loose boulders etc.
• No transportation shall be allowed to
operate within 1.0 m from the edge of
excavated pit
33
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
CONTROLS
2&3-Mass Collapse of Soil /Scaffolding/
Structure/ Equipment
• Ensure proper tightening of bolts and
nuts and follow sequence of erection and
dismantling of scaffold.
• Nobody should be allowed to work in
incomplete scaffold.
• All scaffolds should be checked and
certified by the competent authorities.
34
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
CONTROLS
2&3-Mass Collapse of Soil /Scaffolding/
Structure/ Equipment
• Crane should have valid load testing
certificate
• Crane is to be equipped with SLI, boom
length, angle indicator and anti – two block
device
• Inspection certificates of sling, shackles and
lifting tools tackles should be available
• Safe working load should be clearly marked on
slings, shackles and lifting beams
• There must lifting plan for all complex lifts
• Do not operate with over load. Take care of
boom position for its c.g
35
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
4-Collape of Building (Existing or Nearby workplace)
The building can collapse in two ways i.e. either by an
explosion or by an implosion.
• Explosion: caused by outward force-earthquake or
chemical forces
• Implosion: the building will collapse into itself, when
interior weight bearing elements of structures fail in a
situation of major fire, heavy rains or explosion in the
adjoining building
• Precautions to reduce the likelihood of you becoming
a victim of a building collapse:
• Check the Foundation
• Build Earthquake-Proof Constructions
• Avoid Major Alterations
• Awareness of the construction area-Rainfall,
Drainage system, construction material 36
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
5--Crane boom toppling while erection
Common cause of crane accidents:
• Crane buckling or collapsing due to exceed weight limits, improper counterbalance the
weight, high winds etc.
• Improper crane assembly-crane does not have the proper blocking stabilize the load
• Improper employee training on safe operation
• Mechanical failures
• Contact with overhead power lines
• Flawed or infrequent inspections
• Overturned cranes
37
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
6-Electrocution of person due to contact with live conductor
• U/G Utilities to be identified by manual excavation / cable locator.
• Get the over head line de-energized if it is too close.
• Identify the safe work area and mark it. Provide barricade
and advise to all concerned related to possible consequences
• Electric supply cable to machine must be protected by providing barriers /signage/cover
• Ensure maintaining MCB, ELCB.
• Joint cable has to be replaced by new cable by proper protection through underground
piping
• Earthing to be fitted in light mask to avoid electrocution
38
14-EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS
7- Fire
What to Do in Case of a Fire
• Immediately pull the nearest fire alarm as you exit the
area/building.
• When evacuating the building, be sure to feel doors for heat
before opening them to be sure there is no fire danger on
the other side.
• If there is smoke in the air, stay low to the ground, especially
your head, to reduce inhalation exposure. Keep on hand on
the wall to prevent disorientation and crawl to the nearest
exit.
• Once away and clear from danger, call your report contact
and inform them of the fire.
• Go to your refuge area and await further instructions from
emergency personnel. 39
WORK PERMIT SYSTEM
Work Permit System:
• The work Permit system, which is a formal written system used to
control certain types of work that are potentially hazardous.
• Permits to Work are usually required in high-risk areas as
identified by the Risk Assessments, Examples of high-risk
activities include but are not limited to:
• Entry into confined spaces
• Work at height
• Work in close proximity to overhead power lines
• Hot work
• Excavation /To dig where U/G services may be located
• Work with heavy moving machinery
• Working on electrical equipment
• Work with radioactive isotopes
• Heavy lifting operations
