1 Preventive Maintenance

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
Some of MV AC drives are equipped with maintenance free lead acid batteries (dry type, valve
regulated). The auxiliary supply voltage for the drive internal control electronics is backed up using
power supply supplied by these batteries.

REASONS FOR THE CHANGE:

1.1 The battery lifetime depends on the ambient temperature. The manufacturers
estimation for the operational time is about 2 years at 40 degrees Celsius. The battery
lifetime is defined with a capacity reduction of more than 20 %.

THE RESULTING EFFECT:

If the battery is failing, the drive internal control system auxiliary voltage is not protected
against short auxiliary power dip's and the safe shut down of the AC drive in case of supply
power failure is not possible.
1. Stopping or tripping of drive operation after small dip in auxiliary supply voltage.
2. Risk of broken semiconductor power components (IGCT´s, diodes)

WHERE USED:
All ACS1000 converters delivered with this option.
